NATO couldn't defeat squat..

They can't even agree on what to do with Afghanistan and except for 4 countries don't want to see any of their [ don't really want to call them 'soldiers' as they aren't doing anything remotely soldierly really ] troops injured or even shot at..

If they can't support each other in this ' minor' conflict where some decisive and unified action could easily depress if not eliminate the Taliban threat, they are certainly not going to go against a renaiscent Russia who is bigger, more determined, modernized and decisive in what it wants to accomplish and who, unfortunately, has the hand on the oil cut off taps for Europe...

May have to reassess my opinion regarding Afghanistan a bit.. see that the Frenchies got a bloody nose today in a nasty firefight with the resurgent Taliban... 10 down and many injured... not a good time to make snide remarks... condolences to those involved and their families... been down that road here, more than a few times...

Vive La France!

Everyone, including NATO, is drumming hard on the Russians. But, if I recall the events correctly, it wasn't Russia starting the conflict, it was Georgia (++their hot headed Prezz). So, if you tease the dog, don't be surprised if he bites you. Concerning NATO: A few Armies/Nations in NATO are capable of quick action. The remainder are basically employees in uniform with a corresponding attitude. Action, war, getting shot at? Please not me or us. But it is often not the fault of the soldiers involved, but rather the reflection of the attitudes in the general population or Government. Russian politicians know that before NATO does something, there is a lot of talk, then a long diplomatic gap and then a bad feeling.

See NATO is getting angry with Russia..claiming they'll let whoever they want into the club despite what Putin - sorry - Medevwhatisname - thinks..
And G8 - or 7 - in this case, says they're not going to let the Russians sit at the table unless they get out of Georgia right smart..

ooh, the buns are starting to fly..

Norway: Russia to cut all military ties with NATO

1 hour, 1 minute ago

OSLO, Norway - Norway's Defense Ministry says Russia has informed it that it plans to cut all military ties with NATO.

Ministry spokeswoman Heidi Langvik-Hansen says the country's embassy received a telephone call from Russia's Defense Ministry on Wednesday, saying Moscow plans "to freeze all military cooperation with NATO and allied countries."

Norway was told in the telephone call a written note about this would be sent out shortly.

Russian officials were not immediately available to confirm the information and officials at NATO headquarters said they have not been informed of any such moves.

NATO foreign ministers Tuesday suspended formal contacts with Russia as punishment for sending troops into Georgia.

Like they wanted to be in NATO anyway

I created a new post and called it ww3 scenarios . Since Secretary Rice met with Poland to sign missile defense deal and tension seems to be higher. So I thought I'd make a post about possible war scenarios with Russia.

The possibility of War with Russia has been on the table since the Berlin Airlift. Russia has been Communist and has been a Socialist State I don't necessarly think we fear Russia but the other people that don't like us like China, Venz.,Iran, Syria those people have been our enemies for a long time.People like to think Iran is or was a friend but that is not true we have helped them but they have turned and stabbed us many times

The UN is not NATO. You think China would stick with some old ally who has no creativity? Screw that, this is the MODERN world and the world can't keep buying T-55's just because those dopes made a jillion of them.
