I don't understand.
Canada usually resents America playing "Big Daddy",and now you want America to know what a huge role Canada is playing in 'stan. "Look at me ,Daddy, look at me".So,you go through the time and expense to create a mock-up village,& stage a FTX. In the meantime most Canadians believe the military is a necessary evil which should be out of 'stan immediately. How about Canada buying some more helicopters, which would ease their combat burden, and stop worryin about how America views Canadas' contributions ? Not a question of " look at me" so much as acquainting the ' locals' with the fact that their little cousin to the north is and has been doing some heavy lifting in the outback regions.. Too often [ and I mean no disrespect ] Americans think they're the only ones doing stuff.. How many USA-ers actually know the Brits are a big part of Iraq? That Canada and the Dutch have taken more hits per men on the ground in Afghanistan than the US forces [ until, possibly, lately ] and are up to their boottops in the Taliban fighting? This is just a smooth bit of PR to get the message out and, possibly, make the softy-lefty peaceniks back home take note of what the US reaction to this bit of stagecraft may be [ the SL types up here just hang on every word Obama says and rush out to J-Crew stores to buy every sweater Michelle picks up at the Bargain Barn so they can be just like her ].. As for buying helicopters.. well our dear leader has placed the order.. problem is, it took so long for them to kick the tires and decide where the CD player should go, they won't be delivered until 2015 [ if then ] about 10 years too late to do any good over there [ still, we might get to use them if something goes poorly in Africa or somewhere else, possibly, maybe.. ] In the meantime the Canadian Forces have just been asked to cut $ 8 million out of their training budget cause the recession has put a crimp in the government's buy now pay later purchases which looks bad with an election [ which no one wants] looming for Oct/Nov. 4 years too early.. still, enough about things north of the 49th.. enjoy the show in Washington..for once something about Canada might make the Newscasts [ right after the story about Lindsey Lohan turning down Playboy's offer for a million to bare all, or Macauley Culkin fathering Michael Jackson's love child ] ] There I was , at the head of the old 68th... |

I'm sure that many care about the military [ if only the extended family members of those serving ] but, I'd agree that many don't know and, I think, that's what the government wants.. the less questioning of why and the costs, the better when it comes to spending/rationale/foreign policy
not that the US Government [of whatever stripe ] is unique in that. its all about putting the right spin on things. There I was , at the head of the old 68th... |

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200...re_as/as_afghanistan This is the very reason for the resentment is because the Germans called in the Air Strike and a US Warplane made the strike and the American will take the blame the reason is becaue the US is the only support that the Troops have available.

The Taliban ain't stupid and knew that free fuel would attract scavengers, they also knew that the western forces would call in an airstrike and the whole thing was orchestrated for maximum bad PR.. and, it worked...
all the usual bleating bleeding hearts came out of the woodwork to complain... collateral damage/civilian casualties in WWII were to/20 times as great -what do they expect? get in the war of combattants and you're apt to get it. There I was , at the head of the old 68th... |

Rocketeer
The only people that are going to watch that thing are those that already know whats up. You guys come way down here at the bottom of the barrel and it's " Land of the Rusty Engine Block Ville ". When the Sun goes down on Sunday nights most porch lights do as well. Shadows move from room to room in a house where you thought only one person lived, the occasional sound of an accordion summoning Chubracabra can be heard in the distance, and then there is the FEARSOME 4 foot tall 355 pound skin-tight-white-t-shirt Blubber Monster ( male? female? ) at Wal-Fart standing in line with you. Thank God for Austin! My point is that 80% of the dopes down here don't even know we are in a war or with whom. I kind of like it that way. Last thing we need down here is a riot.
