The US is mulling the use of trained hit squads in Iraq. See story:

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=396714

I think this is a great idea and should level the playing field. It worked to a great degree in Central America. Eventually, people got tired fighting, and once the funds were cut off from the Soviet Union, things died down.

Well ya gotta fight fire with fire. The left would probably shmit a brick over this one, but I think it would save a lot of lives, and get more of these insurgants under control.

The only thing the 'insurgents' (terrorists) understand is death.
Personally I'd take it one step farther. I'd let them know that it would not only be them that we targetted, but their entire families. parents, siblings, kids, the works.
That is, after all, who they say they are doing this for, right?
Like joe said, fight fire with fire.

It might be a good idea but don't tell the news people be pretty hard to set up a ambush with a stupid Newsman there calling in and telling the people where the ambush is going to happen.I just saw where these Human Rights groups already have stated their opinon.More Armchair Generals is all we need.

I have no problem with hit squads against specific indivuals .. but takiig out their families .. have a big problem with that .. getting assigned capping a infant .. or a three-year-old girl .. might cause some morale problems ........ and then there's collateral damage .. and we might take out some friendlies along the way .. that could be very embarassing .. if it's due to bad intell .. especially if the bad intell comes from bad guys and we kill good guys .. we'd be doing their job for them ...

Seriously guys . I think taking out whole families could have the folks at home calling for withdrawal really fast .. smoking abdull the terrorist is one thing .. but mulching infants .. toddlers, pre-teens .. could make public opinion go south really fast .. and there's no way you could totally censor info .. sooner or later it would leak out ...either by leak .. like a certain prison camp .. or some "babykiller" will get the guilts and pull a 60 minutes or Dateline gig ...
and if you think folks got upset about pyramids of naked prisoners .. wait until we're talking murders of non-combatant civilians under the age of responsibility ..
in closing .. cupla nominees for reporters covering those raids ..
Anne Coulter or geraldo rivera ...LOL ..

Holton I didn't see any confirmation that it is true I kinda look where the source comes from the Independent news people (Frankly ) are a bunch of stupid jerks that are getting people in Iraq killed their idea of a War is plain stupid.Dead is Dead it is not a game.I do agree with you wholesale slaughter is sick but what about those Americans who are and remain in Uniform at all times and these Terrioust are in civilan clothes and smile at you and set up an ambush for the next Marine or just wait until you go by and then shoot you in the back.

sully ... I have heard the hit squad rumor from other sources .. and there seems to be some veracity to it .. feeling seems to be it's a trail balloon to see how folks react .. word is "not a viable action at this time. Public reaction seems unfavorable at this time and for immediate future.." .. and it seems to be for the reasons I stated .....
the spectre of dead kids and wrong target seem to be the swing factor here ...

Holton after I made my last post I thought about a person an retired EX-Shipmate that worked security for a Electronics place out of Virgina Beach,Va. his one trip to Yemen paid 125,000.00 I think he was there for a three month stay.I don't know if it is the same but he was paid to be a Body Guard.I talked to his Brother-Inlaw and he said he thought he was a merc.

I don't think the merc thing would be a bad idea. No accountability for the government, and when you have troops doing hits it kinda complicates matters a little. Hit teams would definately send a message to the terrorists, and even the world that those fighting against terror suspects aren't gonna be politically correct; and the whole mental thing as well would drive SOME, not all, terrorists into hiding.

You are right Joe but the Human Rights Groups has already picked up on the reporters comment.Frankly I think they should put one Human Rights person in every cage in Gitmo and see how they fare.

seems to me that reporters (some anyways) and the human rights groups can be added to the group you want to hit.

If we're going to do it we should not be discussing it in the press. I also think that WE should be doing it, not training other ethnics. This could backfire big time.
