Of course you'd have to be willing to accept the consequences.
But in my example, at least I'd be alive to face them.
I'd rather spend some time in prison than die stupidly.

True story what would you do?

Your platoon comes upon to two heavy enemy MGs at the head of pathway between two rice paddies. The MGs have interlocking fire. Your PL, a 2Lt: who has stated he is there to win the MOH, says follow me! Plt Sgt states that it is suicide and we need to use correct procedures. The LT tells him to shut-up and gives him a direct order to charge the enemy. The LT seeing the troops are hesitant shouts I gave a direct order if you disobey me you will be court maritial and sent to Leavenworth. He then turns raises his arm and says follow me! What would you do?

Guess he would be a posthumous MOH winner and I would sign whatever report of the matter the plt. sergeant want me to.

Ahhhh! I hoping for a little more discussion first! But, I will give you a hint, but sssshhh, I want some others to say what they would do. You pretty much hit it on the head as far as to what they would do but there was no prior discussion.

DANE...I never saw a 2nd Lt in Nam, even in the rear at Bien Hoa Army Base. But, I would have encouraged him...

Jeez, I hope it was prior to the time I spent over there...'69-'71! Only thing close I experienced was our West Point CO, who made Capt. Stateside and advised us he "needed" us to "win" him a Silver Star so he could make Major before he returned home! He used to come up with the most STUPID ideas, tell our Lts, who would come and relay the crap and we would tell em he's crazy as hell.

We finally got rid of that dangerous bastard...

I don't really remember the time frame but after what transpired it had to have been earlier.

Stand down the 2LT with force if called for.

Tell him to STFU and watch and learn, if he's still concious!

Call for fire, MOP up. Job done.

wait a sec...wasnt he "going first"?....they lead dont they (at least thats the way we do it here in the IDF-sort of a natural selection process).. In which case, after his first couple steps forward, there probably wont be much left to follow....order will then be non viable
