The Marines got it right.1 desert pattern,1 forest pattern.

Hmmmm, ain't nothing like showing up in the combat zone wearing the wrong pattern! (why are we getting all those incoming shots fired everytime I walk across the frigging compound?...asked the Lt) I'll never forget being in Beirut and having to wear jungle utilities, or arriving in Saudi wearing jungles. We did get the desert cammies after 5 months in Saudi though.

Yes,bad form showing up in the wrong color utilities.Supply strikes again!
But my point was that USMC MARPAT fits well with desert and grassland/woodland. The Army tried the old one camouflage for all environments and wound up with a greyish color that is limited in usefulness. Back to the drawing board....and the wallet to pay for it. There is an art to designing camo and what works best depending. Non-reflective gear is a smart idea as well.

If they were really serious about camouflage..they'd design suits that make you look like the front of a McDonalds or a Buy More for ' urban settings' and a pile of sand for ..you know...
what bugs me is the cost of putting all this clobber together when they could buy good stuff off the shelf at the local Bassmaster or hunting shop.. they got some fab looking ghilly suits that would make any self-respecting sniper drool.. Seen ready-to-wear kit that hides you from deer, moose and bear in the woods and will fool a duck less than a foot away... but, no... got to go through 8 layers of government approvals, low bid competitions and then lobbying by local Congressmen and Senators to have the factory in their state where the kit will be assembled after being outsourced' to China for fabrication by low wage earning refugee Koreans.. oh...um... was I ranting again? Nurse... meds need adjusting!!.. more ice for the Scotch!! There I was , at the head of the old 68th... |
