I would like to ask a question about getting a secret clearance to become an Army Ranger: I have moved a lot in the passed and have a dui on my record from 1998. will this keep me from getting my clearance and achieving my goal of becoming a Ranger?

Hmmmm, DUI and obtaining security clearances.

OK, here's the real deal on security clearances....

When you apply for any security clearance, you will be asked to complete the priliminary form detailing your entire life story.
Every location you have lived
every address you lived at
any eviction processed
every job held
every boss at that job
every friend who will remember you and vouch for you in writting
every relative (see above)
your credit report
any fines levied against you
any repossession
any wage garnishments
every conviction
documented proof of your existence: birth certificate

Now one of the key things to remember is to record all of this yourself up front, and don't omit anything. Upfront honesty and integrity are one of the first things the investigator looks at during this process. If you omit things and they come out in the investigation (strike one), they will bring it up and you will not only have to answer about why you omitted it in the first place (strike two) and depending on the nature of the omission (possible strike three) proceed from there.

Good luck.....personal opinion here, an announced up front DUI recorded in the clearance application shouldn't present much of a problem, as long as there are not any other red flags (omissions or other crimes)

As for needing a secret clearance to become a Ranger? Perhaps one in here who has actually served as a Ranger could answer that question.

By the way, I found that a copy of current credit report will list all of your prior addresses along with dates. This will help in filling out the application.
