I am considering joining the army by starting in ROTC, then moving on to the Rangers. I was wondering what everyone thought about that and if anyone can give me some pointers to get me goin' in the right direction.
I was also wondering what the commitment to ROTC is during the summers. I know there is the leadership course for a month before junior year, but is that one summer or both summers? |

ROTC Cadets are invited to numerous training events during the summer. It is at the discretion of the cadre on how many attend, who goes, etc. It is usually a budgeting issue.
As to ROTC, and how it works, I can tell you, but I would prefer you get the story from Army ROTC instructors at your local university. ROTC is a challenge, and I commend you on your decision to join. Your geographic location will depend on what Army ROTC commands are available at what schools, so please keep that in consideration. I am currently enrolled in ROTC, personally I love it and Its a great start for a career in the Army. The Leadership training course is in the summer of Junior year which is LDAC. If you are curious go to the admissions office at your university and ask to make an apointment with one of the military science
instructors (Cadet Cadre) -hooah |

Thanks for the help. My mom asked me to wait and think about it until fall semester, so it looks like i have some time to talk to some of the guys in ROTC here.

I am currently in ROTC. Apparently I am at the number 1 ROTC battalion for small schools in the country (McDaniel College). Somehow I have a hard time believing it.
Anyways, if you don't want to make any sort of commitment, you can always participate in ROTC without contracting to see whether or not you like it. If you decide to contract, you have until right before the beginning of your sophomore year to decide whether or not you want to stick with it. Personally, I might drop it and try to go warrant officer after college, but I'm not sure yet. Hope that was of some help. |
