So I swore in last Saturday and I'm leaving on the 22nd. I found out by talking to a different recruiter, the physical requirements for basic training. I was surprised when I heard what he had to say.
I started a running program a month ago and can go two miles at a 10min. pace. Considering I've never ran before, I feel like I'm making progress. The problem is, my recruiter told me I'd be fine and not to worry about it, he never actually mentioned the basic requirement of an 8:30sec mile. I brought this up when he picked me up from processing and he said don't worry about it. I think I can pull a mile off in 9min; I THINK. I'm nervous, A) I'll get rejected from basic because I cannot meet the requirement, or B) I'll get the crap torn out of me in basic, being unprepared. I can meet the push up and sit up requirements, no problem... but this running thing has me concerned. Can anyone tell me what to expect? |

hmmmm, an 8:30 mile should be an easy run for someone your age. Assuming that you are below the age of 25. I used to run a 7 minute mile at the age of 39, and I'm a smoker.
Look at it this way. What is the current world record time for a 1 mile run? I think it stands below 4 minutes. Its a lot easier to run in formation than it is for an individual run. Basic they run mostly in formation in preperation for the individual runs. They will work you on formation run with the goal of a mile in 8:30 or less, so then you will be able to run it on individual run at the same pace or better. If you cant pass the PT test at the end of basic they will ELS you (entry level separation), you only have to score 50% in basic but after that its 60%. ELS is not bad its like you were never in the military.
