Well its been a while, I left for BCT way back in June. I finished a week ago. What an experiance. Now for my next big thing. Choosing the right MOS. Currently I am an 88M, but when I go active duty in march, I want to change my MOS. So if you guys could help that be great. heres a list of what id want.

1. On the ground, I dont like how the crew system works in Aircavalry.
2. Something with a little "oomph" or basically something frontline. (I would love to go infantry, but the 9 mile march on the 7 day FTX absolutley killed me. That was the hardest part of basic for me.
3. Something where I can work with soldiers AND the locals.
4. NOT math related, ive almost finished highschool and the hardest class I took was Algebra 1, math aint my thing.

Anyway thats pretty much it. if you could help that would be great, if not well thats what my unit is for...

Welcome back and congrats on passing BCT!

If you are looking for something "frontline," you have to look at your options. Air Cavalry is a myth. You merely need to be an aviation MOS in a Cavalry Regiment. Air Cav is predominantly something from the Vietnam era, and is not primarily the function of the Cavalry as a whole. Merely a minor part of the Cav Machine.

Frontline MOS' consist of Infantry(MOS 11B/C) , Armor(19K), Cavalry(19D), Field Arillery(13B/D/F/M/P/R) Air Defense Artillery(14M/S), Military Police(31B), and the Combat Engineer(21B). These are Combat Arms jobs. They will provide the things you want, but they are not easy. This is where the warfighters are. These are also MOS' all closed to women due to the combative nature of these skills.

That doesn't mean you can't be on the frontline doing another job. It just means you are not the primary trigger pullers of the Army. Motor Transport is a vital part of the Army. I would say learn that side of the house, and when you decide on Active Duty, consider the option from the standpoint of capability and advancement.

Thanks for all of your help everyone. Right now it looks like ill be staying an 88m as for the 91W idea I actually joined to be one. Unfortunatly I was three points below what i needed in the whole general area. (I got a 63 on my ASVAB) Anyhow. Next question. During my time in Basic I was unlucky enough to be in a leadership position since the third week. I kept that up all through basic, from Team Leader to Squad Leader. Now that im back the recruiter mentioned something about having a leadership position gets me promotion points? He didn't really elaborate.

Any of you know what he meant?

CavScout, glad to see you back from where ever you were. I wonder about the MP MOS not being available to women, since I have a neice who is one. Have they changed the qualifications?

Best of luck being a mike88. In case you didnt know you could have waited a while and took the ASVAB over. Engineer and MP can get you front line work. If you dont mind getting blown up try looking into ordinance. As for females being in combat arms Ive known quite a few enlisted female MP's who have had been in a fair share of enemy contant. Females are allowed in FA but only as officers. I only make this assumption because I know an female FA officer. Again best of luck and dont be a BF.

I'm no Bravo Foxtrot.
As for Mp's I know several females in my basic who were going MP so females can still be MPs. It should be available...

Yes, sorry. A little bit of an error on my verbage there. MPs are the only "Combat Arms" MOS that allow women. Sorry, my fault. I made somewhat of a generalization. I usually do not consider them Combat....I was making an effort to be polite and correct, and goofed.

Thanks Harry. I was at Fort Knox for Basic Non-Commisioned Officers Course. Yay for changes and upheavals of doctrine. Learned a lot, though. So it'll definitely help out on many levels.

I spent a year on Fort Knox. It was not a bad post. We lived in those World War II temporary barracks. My how the winter winds did blow through the two inches that we were required to keep open on each window.

It is nice to see that you got something out of your training and, as I said, it is nice to have you back.

My niece is now recruiting for the ANG on a college campus; Round Ronald would have not gotten past her.
