hello. i am considering miliary service. i am intersted in police work. is it possible to be garaunteed for military police duty in a contract if i join? i am very unsure about service at this point , but it has its appeal and drawbacks...if anyone could post there best and worst moments in the military i would appreciate it, and include your personal opinion if you really feel your sacrifice is worth the gain.i need to take a few months to get in shape anyway, so it will give me time to decide, but i need more real people to give me the info instead of the "easy street " propaganga the military tries to sell the unaware recruit...thanks

I have been out of the military since 1970 but it has been a positive part of my life since I first enlisted. It is not for everyone and most people who do join do so for only a single enlistment. In the many years since my time in the Army, I have only met a few people who truly hated their experience and most of them did no overseas time.

If you are looking for a carefree and easy few years -- the military is not for you. It consists of hard physical training, mental conditioning, and an absolute obeying of orders during basic and advanced training. Once you have finished your formal training and begun your on-the-job training (okay new guy, here’s how we do it in the real world) you will have reached a level of maturity that your buddies back home will never understand or equal.

Most people utter the phrase, “God, I made it!” after training instead of, “Oh, that was nice.” That should tell you something about how challenging it can be and how rewarding it is to meet that challenge.

You only make a sacrifice in the military if you loose limbs, organs, or your life; otherwise, it was a worthy experience. Having gone to college after the military also made it easier because I knew more about whom I was and what I was capable of doing.

You can enlist under a contract to be trained for a MP and the Army will fulfill that contract unless it is your fault that it went wrong and then you will be subject to filling a current need. After the military, you will probably have to go the police academy but you will be a more experienced human being.

The academys are paid by the town or state, in most cases. That's in New Jersey. Being an MP will give you an in, as well as prior service, but you definity need some college credits to go along with them. Those you can recieve in corrospondence courses and for the college tuition money granted to you by the military.
You can retire after 20 years with a partial pension pay, 25 years with more and up to 30 I think. Your recuiter will be able to fill you in on all the details for this and the locations of you basic and AIT training posts
Be sure to read the contract very carfully and verify the MOS numbers before you sign.
