personally I've never seen much difference between them other than the hats. I've had numerous encounters with each and came to the conclusion that both are just Army guys to me. They both like to drink and fight. Marines just do both better.

Try telling that to the army guys. My friends uncle is a Ranger and he said something similar when referring to marines and how they like to boast so much. He said "if you aren't Recon, then you aren't sh#%" But thats not what this post is about.
From what I understand, while they are similar, Green berets handle more of the CT and unconventional conflicts and well, I'm not entirely sure what particular special operations Rangers do, etc so if someone could better explain. |

Just look at history and you'll see that Marines aren't boasting, just stating facts.
"Tell that to the Marines!" ~ President Franklin D. Roosevelt after the attacks on Pearl Harbor "The raising of the flag on Iwo Jima, means a Marine Corps for the next 50) 500 years." ~ James Forrestal, Secretary of the Navy "Marines I see as two breeds, Rottweilers or Dobermans, because Marines come in two varieties, big and mean, or skinny and mean. They're aggressive on the attack and tenacious on the defense. They've got really short hair and they always go for the throat." ~ RAdm. "Jay' R. Stark, U.S. Navy "The man who will go where his colors will go, without asking, who will fight a phantom foe in a jungle and mountain range, without counting, and who will suffer and die in the midst of incredible hardship, without complaint, is still what he has always been, from Imperial Rome to sceptered Britain to Democratic America. He is the stuff of which legions are made. His pride is his colors and his regiment, his training hard and thorough and coldly realistic, to fit him for what he must face, and his obedience is to his orders. As a legionary, he held the gates of civilization for the classical world...he has been called United States Marine." ~ Lieutenant Colonel T.R. Fehrenbach, US Army in "This Kind of War" The deadliest weapon in the world is a Marine and his rifle!" ~ General Pershing, US Army "The safest place in Korea was right behind a platoon of Marines. LORD, how they could fight!" ~ Major General Frank Lowe, US Army "Do not attack the First Marine Division. Leave the yellowlegs alone. Strike the American Army" ~ Orders given to Communist troops in the Korean War; shortly afterward, the Marines were ordered to not wear their khaki leggings to keep the enemy from immediately fleeing "Marines know how to use their bayonets. Army bayonets may as well be paper-weights." ~ Navy Times The Marines are careful, brave fighters...they were like hunters, boring in relentlessly without fear. I never heard a wounded Marine moan." ~ The U.S. Army General Staff "We have two companies of Marines running all over this island and thousands of Army troops doing nothing!" ~ General John Vessey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs "To observe a Marine is inspirational, to be a Marine is exceptional." ~ Unknown "Marines are about the most peculiar breed of human beings I have ever witnessed. They treat their service as if it was some kind of cult, plastering their emblem on almost everything they own, making themselves up to look like insane fanatics with haircuts to ungentlemanly lengths, worshipping their Commandant almost as if he was a god, and making weird animal noises like a band of savages. They'll fight like rabid dogs at the drop of a hat just for the sake of a little action, and are the cockiest SOB's I have ever known. Most have the foulest mouths and drink well beyond man's normal limits, but their high spirits and sense of brotherhood set them apart and , generally speaking, of the United States Marines I've come in contact with, are the most professional soldiers and the finest men I have had the pleasure to meet." ~ An Anonymous Canadian Citizen Please note that most of these were quotes from the US Army Leadership. I know that like most marines, you're very apparently RAH RAH Marines, but that's not what this topic is about. I don't want to get into a my daddy can beat up your daddy conversation. I'm curious to know what the different training structures are for Rangers and SF. Any Rangers on here? From what I've heard the Ranger training is more combat focused and SF training is more about leadership skills and language proficiency to teach indigenous persons. I would like to know if anyone has any more knowledge on their specific training etc. Thanks.

not a Ranger or Green Beret, but I do have some advice.
Go to your local library and look for a couple of books on the subject. Or better yet, you can get this little gem (seems to actually be pretty highly recommended in the reviews): Special Forces Book ---------------------------------------- "War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill |

You are the one who cannot seem to go to a library or look the information up on the web. It might serve you better because lazy will not get it in the more elite units. "It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it" DOUGLAS MacARTHUR, 1952 |

I've done plenty of research, but i think you'll agree with me that hearing it from people who have gone through the pipeline is better than reading a few lines from the internet.

I trained under rangers in basic as well as served with many in my units. They wear jump boots and have that patch that says "Ranger." As with most people, their stories are colored. You might look into something unbiased in its presentation as opposed to trying to bait Marines into unless arguments. Good research comes from several sources which includes books and web sites. TO KILL THINGS AND BREAK PEOPLE!.....wait, no, that's not right....Uhm, DRESS BLUES! 'Cause chicks dig Marine uniforms!
Actually I signed the papers to enter the USMC exactly 24 years ago today! See, there was this horrific terrorist attack and I had this compulsion "to do something" to get these bastards back and do my patriotic duty for the country. Kinda sounds familiar, huh? It's what I hear the youngsters I train say today, only they're referring to Sept 11th, 2001. I'm referring to the 241 Marines and Sailors killed on 23 Oct 1983 in Beirut, Lebanon. |

Myself, I just wanted to eat regular. Being a construction worker in Denver is seasonal work, so after a few years of all those winter layoffs, I decided to try something different. Came in on an open contract, meaning the Corps would place me where they felt they needed me. Next thing I knew I was standing on them yellow footprints at MCRD San Diego facing the biggist, meanest SOB god had ever created. Always wondered what god was thinkin when he made GySgt Banks.
