And yet that is exactly how the military portrays themselves. Join the army and you can learn a skill and get money for college. Or they show these melodramatic commercials of helicopters flying around (remember the 1%) with high tech computers in a tent (again the 1%). What they dont show is a marine in a fox hole for 45 days eating shitty ass MRE's and not showering (a more sizable percentage). I want to see a commercial where its 2 min of a soldier in a fox hole dirty and eating an MRE while his bipolar sgt chews him a new ass because he is higher rank (because you wont see a sgt chewing an officers ass).

Now the military is pulling skilled people out of there positions (admin, legal assistants) to pull guard duty and go on patrols. But you dont see them sending the JAG or the doc to do that shit (again the shit rolls down hill) you wont see a sgt telling a JAG he better get his ass on the line and pull security or he will be repremanded but the legal aids and admin privates are pee ons and you better understand that when you join.

rppearso-why don't you explain all you know about something you know nothing about when you could not hack the primary part.

I did hack the primary shit, but once I finished that, there was no end in sight. I would have had to go to OCS which was a deeper level of nightmare than basic (not to mention I would have had to wait 2 years before I even went and it would have taken 2 years to finish leaving me at less than E1 (ocs candidate) for a very long time and once that was done I would have to sign on for another 6 years just to go to flight school. So I think I know a little about the process. I decided to jump ship when I realized that there was no end to the BS, it was get through basic, then get through OCS and then have to sign up for 6 more years which I had no intention to do so (and was never told before hand and was not in my contract) why waste more time and money when I would have just finished OCS and waited until my contract expired to get out anyway before completeing OBC, whats the point. If they had been more forthcomming up front instead of playing a smoke and mirrors game this situation would not exist.

All they would have had to say is, this is a 12 year commitment and OCS is a nightmare far worse than basic and I would have told them what I told the air force.... no thank you, 12 years is way to long, I can get my pilots licence and buy my own plane in 12 years. And the military culture played a very large role in me getting out. So dont tell me I know nothing about the process just because I was not shot at in iraq, sitting in a foxhole in iraq does not teach you anything more about the system it is just more abuse from the system.

Thank you for the insightfull rebuke, you addressed nothing of what I said, is that maybe because you yourself being a seasoned military professional have no experence with OCS and flight school requirements.

Yeah, maybe it's sometimes better to keep your mouth shut when you don't know anything about a topic....

I must commend rppearso for not going in... you have spared potential subordinates of a self centered, egotistical, underachiever. Your choice I am sure has saved many lives and you should be commended for your choice.

Were you in my squad in a combat zone; I would have you detailed to an aid station so that you could witness what selfishness and lack of attention causes. Unlike a video game men and women take a long time to heal and require the best of those around them. I would not waste any ammunition or psychich energy on your sorry excuse for an american

You get E-4 when you enlist as an 09S, so you go though basic as an E-4.

rrpearso: People like you don't ever venture into my part of the military. I wouldn't kill you, I'll need somebody to expose a sniper or IED trigger man. Or you could be a prime candidate for unmasking procedures in a chemical environment.
You'd never make it into my unit, or near it. I will not risk my soldiers' lives by allowing them to serve within a thousand yards of an idiot of your caliber. Your problem is you probably wouldn't get smoked, but you'd get one of my experienced soldiers or NCOs killed. I could be wrong; because, son, you are a whole new brand of stupid. We might just get lucky and get to chalk you up to that authorized 10% combat loss.

Reminds me of one time out in the field while on arty shoot. We would shoot and move, generally move into the same area we had just pumped in 500 or so rounds the previous days....and we'd get the site all set-up...guns, CP, Comm, etc. So late one evening after a full days of blasting dirt an rabbits an such, our E-4 admin clerk (not one of the sharpest pencils in the stack) came into the CP juggling what appreared to be expended mortor rounds!

Well, needless to say, everyone in the CP headed for the nearest berm leaving this hapless Cpl standing there wondering what all the fuss was about. My CO just looked at me and told me to do what ever it takes but get his dumb ass out of his CP...NOW!

From a short distance and while hiding behind my helmet, I directed him to slowly set the rounds down (3) and back away. He did it, but he wasn't really comprehending the danger he was in. We ended up relocating the CP and guns a few hundred meters away that night, and I had to arrange for EOD to come out and blow the rounds in place. It was only then, did the Cpl understand the impact of what he had done......

We all agreed that stupid people shouldn't be allowed to breed.
