MPs are cops but they also handle prisoners of war which makes them prison guards. They also guard convoys – a fine job to have in a war zone with roadside bombs. My niece did it and found the experience worth while.
In the National Guard they become cops again. From what I understand – you still have to go to the police academy after getting out. Truck drivers have the same problem. "It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it" DOUGLAS MacARTHUR, 1952 |

I was an MP for 5 years in Korea and Ft Benning, I really did not like it that much because I worked the "road" (patrol on the base) alot and due to my low rank at the time I was always working weekends, nights and holidays.
I also found that I was getting a very "jaded" view of people because every time I saw someone in my job capacity, it was because they were in trouble, all the spouse abuse, child abuse, DUI's ect.....after a while I just got sick of it. My mentor is an MP (18 years in) he has been on every major deployment and a whole bunch of smaller ones; and like HarryP said during his deployments he spent alot of time handling POW's. What ever you do DO NOT LISTEN TO THE RECRUITER, find out what you need to know about the job for MP's or SP's first before you make a decision. Being a COP and an MP are not the same, shoot you watch cops....if MP's were as free as that on post....well shoot I would be very interested to see that but we are governed by a different set of rules. |

I will PM you with my mentors email address. I am no longer an MP, the only way I could get out of the MP corps was to either become a Patriot Missle repairman or an officer, I chose officer.

My niece worked as a recruiter for a year and is now working for an artillery battalion. She was not overly enamored with being a MP either.

Most of the MP's I knew told me that when they were newbies all they got were trash details.

Well, one thing your niece will never have to worry about....being jumpy at loud noises for the rest of her life!
If I walk into a room and my wife didn't hear me coming or she didn't know I was there, the instant she does, I have to almost peel her off the ceiling! Oh yeah, whatever was in her hands is either on the floor or splattered across a wall....told her I was gonna start wearing a bell. SEMPER FI The Gunny PROUD TO BE AN INFIDEL America is not at war. Military Police are generally assigned under the Base Commanding Officer.

No, not the Pineview Club, but I was kicked out of a whorehouse once. Spent too much time pretending to make up my mind which girl I was gonna buy (without any money) It was great fun while it lasted.
