I joined the British Army in May 2003, originally wanting to be an RMP (Royal Military Police) I recapbadged to 1RTR (The 1st Royal tank Regiment) during training.

Having spent two years on exercises designed to train tank commanders, I was moved to the other part of the regiment (my regiment is dual role) which has a regimental title of its own, the Joint CBRN Regiment (Joint Chemical Biological Radiological Regiment).

I am a Challenger 2 Driver, Gunner, and Loader, which is common practice in the Armoured Core. I am also a Driver and Gunner in a small Reccee (Recon) vehicle the Schimitar.

In the British Army you have to serve a minimum of 4 years. After the 3 year point you can hand in your resignation, after which you serve a further 12 months before becoming a civie.

I'm off on a 6 month tour in Iraq in October, as Light Infantry. After I get back I might 'sign off'.

I am a Trooper (Private), and looking for promotion soon. I'm Male, 23 and born in Wales, I have no criminal record.

The thought has occured to me that I might like the US Army better. I am thinking of emmigrating and i am interested in job prospects in the US.

How difficcult would it be for me to join the US Army? Is there anything I should be aware of that would make it difficult for me to enlist? Would I be welcome?

It sounds to me like you've got a good start to a military career already. Coming to the states would mean starting all over from scratch.

We do things way differently over here. But then again, you might like it.

Just remember one little thing, skiffing generally results in a good brawl!

I'm sure there's a nice Stryker waiting for you if you want to stay armor. But Gunny's right, your gonna have to start from the bottom. Unless you finnished college then you just needa get your citzenship and they can slap you with a butterbar.

Plus other qualifications I've aquired which I don't know what they are.

Thats just the first hurdle, then you will have to have your education acredited.

Then about the officers program well thats a whole different animal, there a lot of prerequisites there. Its possible, but you will have groups of work to do.
