I find it actually very surprising that I joined the Army. A few months ago I had no intent of doing so and was actually a little hesitant of the military lifestyle. I felt that people in the military were people without personal freedom. But after plenty of research and consversation with actual men in service, I realised that I was quite wrong. I decided that a life in the military could instill in me the discipline and resourcefullness to accomplish whatever I may desire. I do realise that this is going to be a difficult task, and my success is squarely on my shourlders.

Anyway, I went to MEPS Tuesday. I took my ASVAB and scored an 88. I didn't know if that was good or not. This goofy kid that was going into the Airforce was bragging about his 79, I told him I made a 88, he said it was pretty good. The next day I got a picket fence on my physical profile. This really surprised me. My hearing is questionable at best. I signed my contract, 13f. I also got 40k in signing bonus for 4 years.

I am excited and proud. This is silly because I haven't done anything yet... I don't even know if I can run a mile in under 10 minutes.

You will soon be able to accomplish tasks you have not even thought of or felt impossible.

Best of luck to you and enjoy the field artillery school.

When you get time...check out the Stockade on Post where the Army held the Apache warrior Geronimo and the stories of his jumping off medicine bluff while on horse back.

Geronimo was quite a guy wasn't he. Pissing both the Mexicans and Americans off, all the while stockpiling wives.

ColeTrain: If I could do it, anyone could. My ass seemed to be full of lead (my wife thinks that it still is) but I somehow made the grade (no pun intended).

I went and took that pre-pt assessment. I did 45 pushups in a minute, 35 situps. I could only do a mile in 8:20, and it bout killed me. Still, it was a pleasent surprise.

That was a good beginning score. You'll do fine with continued workouts.

Welcome to artillery, 13F is forward observer correct? I am 13B or cannon crew member on paladins with the Kansas Army National Guard. So I might be able to answer some questions if you have any.

You can do anything you set your mind to. Now that may seem corny for now. You will see, the military will bring out things you didn't know you had. I was 11B Infantry for 4 years and boy did I learned about myself and my ability. You may like it and stay in as a lifer. Weather that's the case or not save all of your paystubs (LES.That will prove how many years you've been in. The Army will ask you to prove any misssing time you have on retirement points. I liked it so much I'm going to Drill SGT School in 2 weeks!

good luck in your endeavors.
