I recently went to MEPS and signed a contract that was completely different than what I was told that I could get, and now I'm really starting to regret my commitment based on these terms. A lthough I am not a quiter and I will serve my country regardless, I've been told that if I had not listened to them tell me Airborne wasn't available that I would have eventually gotten it. If I tell my recruiter that I'm having doubts and request a ghange to my contract to include Airborne, will I be able to get the change before I go to BCT?
I understant why the Army has certain standards, but to tell someone that the don't quallify for Airborne because they have a GED seems vert counter-productive, especially when the applicant is a mature adult with an asvab score over 80. But again, its just my oppinion and they have their standards anyway. Thanks for any replies. |

No, your screwed. But also, I've never heard of Airborn being specifically outlined in a contract. What's your MOS and what unit are you being scheduled to be attached to?

hmmm, I recently bought a car and signed all the paperwork, now this post has got me wondering if I can go back and get them to change the contract so that it's more to my liking?
yeah right, likes thats gonna happen! What is it with folks that enlist, only to meet up with a 'sea-lawyer' at thier first duty station, and start down this path? You have a question about the contract you signed, here's a news flash for you, take or make the time to actually read it first. You might find that it properly defines everything for you upfront without having to consult a sea-lawyer. By the by, the vast majority of sea-lawyers haven't even read thier own contract. I agree with Gunny, as it is fact.
But just to nitpick...at what point in our jacked up Army history did HOOAH become something we said? It irritates me. I hate HOOAH, because it is a corruption of the original word. 'HUA' as it was known for years and years. It, as many other colorful words, in our military jargon, stands for HEARD, UNDERSTOOD, ACKNOWLEDGED...thus HUA. This Hooah crap has to stop. I'm all about being motivated, but not listenting to privates drag out "hoooooaaaaah" in the shrill private tone of voice. This concludes your Table VIII day run, lock and clear all weapons systems, placing them on manual and electrical safe, elevate your gun system, keeping it up and down range, and proceed to the clearing pit to be cleared by the RSO. Proceed to the base of the tower for your AAR. Out. "Brave Rifles! Veterans! You have been baptized in Fire and Blood, and come out Steel!" |

I am with you CavScout, back in my day we never yelled anything like that (it might have blown out the candles).

Shouldn't be allowed to say it if they don't even know what it means!

I would have to agree that your misunderstanding has led to you being screwed, so roll with it.

It takes a certain level of "screwed up" to do this job in any capacity, right?

Woa hold everything. Since I just walked into this, Im going to try to answer the first post and only that. I will use my good friend as an example.
After BCT my friend and I went our seperate ways, he went to AIT, and I went home (I'm a split-op.) He joined as a good 'ol 91W, he learned alot in basic, and gained alot of courage and other such things of that nature. About half-way through basic, the drill seargents will start asking questions. One of them will be. "Any of you dumbasses joining airborne?" My friend always said no, but after basic he told me he really wanted to do it. Now he is a 91W for the good 'ol 82 Airborne. Now they way I understand it, is anytime during AIT you can volunteer for the two-week Airborne Qualification Course. This is what my friend did, it happens after AIT. So YES. YES YOU CAN. Dont listen to the recruiters. I personally hate all recruiters and refuse to stoop to their level. I don't know how many times they outright lied to me and my battle's faces. So I'm kinda bitter torwards 'em. Now just wait, anybody at any time can go into the Airborne course, just as anybody can go to the Rangers. Im not saying its a garunteed thing, both courses are quite hard. God. You made me type. I hope you are happy. Give a man a gun he thinks he's Superman. Give him two and he thinks he's God. |
