Hello,
I will provide with some basic information concerning myself. I am 23-years old student (Faculty of Law), I've almost got my degree. My nationality is Polish. I am interested in joining the US Army, but the only obstacle is the requirement of having a green card. At the moment I am during the process of obtaining the legal job in the USA, and at the beginning of July I am going to the USA. I really want to start the enlisting procedure. Is it possible, after a few month of legal job in the USA, to join the US Army. Or, another alternative, if my endeavours to get the label/work visa would be fruitless is there any opportunity to start the enlisting procedure with the student visa (work&travel, 4 months)? I am really willing to do that. I've spend more than a year preparing for the physical test. My command of English is very good. By the end of May I will have got the TOEFL Certificate. Maciek P.S. I would like to go either Iraq or Afghanistan (is it possible after basic training?) |

The basic qualifications for enlistment in the U.S. Army include:
• being from 17 to 34 years old • be a U.S. citizen or resident alien, (must have the I-551) • have a high school diploma or equivalent (such as a GED) • be single with no children or married with 2 or less children • pass the ASVAB test and • pass the physical You should also not be undergoing any civil actions; certain law violations will disqualify you. You are not required to have a High School Diploma. There are also weight and physical fitness requirements that must be met in order to join the U.S. Army. Do you meet or exceed all of these requirements? I am exceeding almost all of the requirements above
1. I am 23 years old (YES) 2. U.S. citizen or resident alien (NO) 3. University education (lawyer)(YES) 4. single, no spouse (YES) 5. ASVAB (no big problem)(YES) 6. physical (no problem)(YES) As I mentioned in my post, I do not meet the basic requirement of being a U.S. citizen or resident alien. The only existing hope is the fact that there are opportunities to get the green card, maybe finding a legal job in the USA can increase my chances? GENERALLY that's the only problem. Write any thoughts, ideas concerning point 2. Thank you for an immediate replay Maciek |

Talk to someone about getting residence -- that is your only hope.

Go to the US Embassy in Poland, they could probably provide you information and help.

Thanks for the advice,
I spoke with officials in the Embassy in Warsaw, and they informed that "there is no special treatment for candidates to the US Army, standard procedure". I need the Green Card, maybe somehow I can get it directly form the Army. Have you ever heard about such precedence? Maybe such possibility exists? |

A green card is something the army can't get you. I might be mistaken, but I think you either go through an embassy or through the US state department to get a green card.

Ok,
I am very grateful to the Users of the site who wrote the previous posts. Maybe somebody has a direct access to the recruiter or somebody-to the source of information. That's my email maciek.ozarowski@yahoo.com What I need is everything concerning the process of getting a GREEN CARD and being enlisted. Maybe some of you knows the foreigners serving in the AA? Please ask them, ask anybody. I really want to be a soldier. Maciek |

You need to get a "green card" first. That means you have to get to the U.S. in order to even start the process. You need to go through the US Consulate for that:
http://poland.usembassy.gov/poland/consular.html There's also one in Krakow if that is closer for you. |

Approximately, how much time does it take to be deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan, shortly after completing Basic Training and Graduation?

Hi, Ozharovsky, i'm a young french, i'm in senior year in highschool, and i would like to join the US Army since I'll be graduate. I've already talk to a recruiter, but unfortunately, he said that army regulations prohibit them to sponsoring foreigners to the USA. We have to get a green card on our own.. I'm gonna call the US ambassy in Paris to see how i can do to get a green card. |

When I was in the guard, I came in contact with several sgts who had deployed and it cost them there marriages, and thats just a hand full of sgts from a national guard unit, alot of people come back messed up or come back and there lives at home are messed up once they arrive, you cant take care of your affairs like responsible adults when you are deployed for 24 months or had 5 deployments, but apparently the military is doing well and people keep joining so more power to them either that or the pentagon is blowing so much smoke no one can even see down the halls anymore, also there are record number of waivers being granted for all kinds of things which would expain how the military is able to keep there numbers up, just make sure you keep the contractors that make your equipment happy.
