I am prior service and due to credit issues they won't give me my TS clearance back right now.

So, I enlisted into 74D in order to get in, and plan on re-classing to EOD asap. I have plans set-up to remedy the credit problem, and I am even paying to have a background check run on myself in order to make sure I give them all the info they could ever want. I know they need EOD bad now, and I wanna do it even worse. Does anyone have any advice, or an opinion on whether this is a promising idea. My scores blow the ASVAB away at GT92, and nothing below 130, but because I'm prior service my recruiter says they don't matter.

I just need some guidance, hopefully someone out there has been in a similar situation. Maybe there's even a recruiter out there, or EOD commander that can help.

Thanks alot,
Nytewolfe

Credit issues are a matter of acting in a responsible manner. If things are beyond your control then you might be able to work the issue off of your record. Remember, people in economic dire circumstances are susceptible to bribery which is the real issue.

Right, I get that.

My issues are all in the past, and aren't serious enough to persuade me anyway, even if I was that type of person, which I am not at all.

I just hope to find someone outside of MEPS that will sit down with an objective mind and see that yes I have made some stupid mistakes in my past, but they are all in my past, and I am now working for my future, my family, and my country again. Don't we all wish we knew what we know now when we were younger.

Anyhow, thanks alot for the response. I am sure I will be able to clear all up once I'm active again and able to get my S-2 working on my SF86. I plan on doing a year as a 74D and then starting the process to re-enlist again for re-class as 89D...woot, GO EOD!!!

Most folks don't connect the 'why' concerning credit history and its connection with a security clearance. Most feel that hey, its all in the past and I can't change it anyway. If you know you have a bad credit history, the real question is what have you done to correct it? By displaying those efforts along with documentation to back you up before they ask, is the only way to convince the DSS investigator that you are worthy of a clearance and the inherent risk the government is taking on you.

I deal with security clearance issues every day, and have terminated the employment of good well meaning people, because they couldn't maintain or obtain the clearance required.

Hope your plans work out for you.

Understood.
I just hope I can do enough.

Thanks for the advice,
