Talk to his unit chain of command, tho they may not tell you anything. First you need to know what they are charging him with, then have him get with the legal officer if needed. But I fear that you must wait to see what comes down the pike to take any helpful actions.

I can tell you from first hand experience with the military. Like in the civilian world, one can be accused of just about anything. What counts is what is proven in a court of law. Some of these courts are held at the Commanding Officer Level (NJP), providing the accused grants permission to have the CO pass judgement.
Every Soldier, Sailor, Airman and Marine has the right to trial by court martial. That is the route to take when one is being unjustly accused of a crime. If one is innocent, that is the direction they needed to go. Lawyers are then assigned to represent the individuals best interests. Lawyers are not involved when Non-Judicial Punishment cases appear befroe a Commanding Officer. Many take the NJP route because they trust the CO will be fair. On the flip side, many do take the court martial route when they believe they aren't going to get a fair shake. He is f**ed, they control everything you do at basic and infantry AIT from when you go to the bathroom to when you can pick your nose so good luck getting time to work with a JAG and put together a case and get enough sleep to think clearly about what is going on. He is totally f***ed. The gunny is correct I just filled in the reality, not to mention he will probably be in basic for 3 to 4 times the normal length and need therapy when he gets out, that the army might pay for after a years worth of paper work.

They need to hear the truth and since everyone here wanted to candy coat it I felt the need to interject reality. Why would you want to candy coat and blow smoke when you ought to know better. BTW when you flame and swear it just denigrates your credibility. The only thing the parents can do it contact there congressional representation and pray to God they pull him from training entirely and send him home and process an ELS the same day, basicly if his dad is golfing buddies with a congressman he will probably be ok, no one questions a congressional inquiry otherwise the base commanders butt will be in the wringer. But aside from that he is f***ed. BTW I have been there and seen this stuff happen as you also have but im willing to tell it like it is and you are not.
