mopar mark....you came to the right place! We have quite a few Army types in here. One or more of them will likely step up to the plate, if only so's you don't get a US MARINE version of Army history!!!

lol...
Gunny, My SIL tells me that what keeps him centered while he is in Iraq is my almost daily reminder to him that "Remember, your a Marine first...and grunt second. Think like a Marine, and you'll be safer than if you think like a Grunt" Kinda get's his buddies up in their hackles, but he just tells em "Hey, she's MY Mother In-law, and it's MY butt she will kick if I get hurt"..lol But since he is Army now, but has prior service in the Corps...I can imagine what his twisted version of Army history would be..lol Oh yeah...he can't bring himself to say HOOAH! either... C-Mom.....Your SIL IS better off than the average soldier over there due to the very fact that he is a Marine, even if he went over to the dark side!
Too bad mopar_mark hasn't come back to the site, you could hook them both up together. Well Gunny...we can't hold the Army thing against him all together. He went to a USMC recruiter to re-enlist, and the guy didn't know what the hell he was talking about and told Dan he was past the age limits to re-enlist in the Corp. What the moron never took into account (and we found out to late) is that Dan was still serving his reserve time and the age limit didn't apply to him.
And you right...his Marine roots are what is keeping him all together. His roomies hate it when he goes "Corp on their asses", but he is the senior ranking soldier in the room, and he is the oldest as well. It took him awhile, and unfortunatly a casualty to convince his buddies that even if it's a quick trip to the head in what you consider a safe zone, it's worth putting your flak vest on. He and his unit are in the northern region and as we all know...it's gotten a few hits. Dan says it's just not worth the risk of NOT wearing as much safety gear as they can provide. It's also his Marine training that got him the expert marksmanship rating. He's also top in his unit on the 50 cal (Wouldn't Donnie just love that??..lol) and rotates in as the LT's gunner. And he's a Marine in his heart, right were it counts |

Well, I for one, am pleased to hear that his Marine training and good old common sense is still working for him. The Army tends to drain that right out of ya when exposed to it for long periods of time.
Yeah, Donnie would be all over it. Sure do miss her....(I know that she's grinning when I'm thinking of her) SEMPER FI The Gunny PROUD TO BE AN INFIDEL I prefer to think that the chip on my shoulder gives the monkey on my back something to play with. I think of her often, and still miss her horribly. Especially when I hear that sappy Reba McIntire song "My sister, My friend"...gets me every time..
What I wouldn't give for a good old fashioned sisterly arguement with that hard headed sailor.. But, I have this sneakin hunch she's having a good old time with the boys at Bob's heaveny USO show..lol We tell Dan he has a guardian angel with Kevlar wings and a 50 cal "Locked & loaded..." |

Porbably to late but just go to army.mil.
"good old common sense is still working for him. The Army tends to drain that right out of ya when exposed to it for long periods of time." Let us not forget how the know it all marine attitude could not let you guys see that we were TCB'ing the right way in Fallujah. I remember reading Marine command statements in the Stars and Stripes of how we were handling fallujah badly and artillery use on our behalf was overreacting. guess common snese would tell you to get your boots on ground then start your siskel & ebert show. |
