So I go down to MEPS in KS city and now im back. That was quite a bit of waiting gave new meaning to the Army Motto: "HURRY UP, AND WAIT"
what a day. Anyhow I wanted to take Boot camp this summer so I checked the available jobs. One for someone wiht my qaulifications (Im color blind red-green 80%) and the only job was an 88mike. 1. What the hell do they do? Just drive trucks or do they get to drive humvees as well? 2. I was told by my recruiter that If i did well enough on some pre-Boot test thing I would be promoted, then later I refered a friend to the army he was thinking about it and told him what I had done and he said HELLZ yeah imma join. So my recruiter told me that would promote me as well. so basically im gonna be a friggen PFC before i even finish boot! insane. Give a man a gun he thinks he's Superman. Give him two and he thinks he's God. |

Congrats! Welcome to the Team.
Motor Transport Operators, 88M, drive every wheeled vehicle in the Army inventory. HMMWVs, FMTVs, LMTVs, HMMTs, and HETs. Humvees, all the way to the HET, Heavy Equipment Tractor (A giant semi, that can haul a 70 ton M1 Abrams tank). Best of Luck! The Army's strength does not lie in numbers. It lies in you. You are now an Army of One. "Brave Rifles! Veterans! You have been baptized in Fire and Blood, and come out Steel!" |

I feel your pain man, I'm also red/green color blind. All I could bet was 88M or 31C-I took the 31C(radio operator). It has since been changed to 25C, so I don't know if the vision requirements are the same.

Gawd, what an exciting time. MEPS! I remember MEPS. I rember being scared. I remember them saying that I was a few pounds away from being too skinny! I remember shaking. I remember waiting! I remember it all.
So, I really don't want to sound like an old man or anything, but this is the start of a whole new life for you. You will change. You will not be the same person. Sure, certain things will always be the same, but if you had not joined, had not served, had not done your duty, then you would turn out to be a different person. For me, being a different person was a benefit. I have no doubt that if I did not join the military, I would most likely be a big, giant piece of crap. I hope this is not your case. I hope that you have a wonderful life experience. I hope it changes you for the better. I pray that you do not see war. I pray that you get stationed far away from it. I pray you don't have to take a life. Godspeed. ARS 42 Can Do |

88M. That is my current job. Basicly what we do is drive any vehicle(truck) that the Army has. Anywhere from Humvees, to 5 Tons, to M915s(tractor-trailer) When deployed we dont just drive. During AIT we get aditional Infantry training since in a combat enviorment we could be doing foot patrols and kicking down doors and clearing buildings. If you have more questions, feel free to email me.
