There is a growing concern that malaria tablets are causing adverse psychological side effects.
See: http://www.militaryspot.com/lariam.htm

I took the tablets while my unit was deployed in the Philippines, but did not experience side effects.

The tablets themselves are super-sized. They are pink and round and big. The first time we had to take them there was at a company formation. They passed out the tablets and physically witnessed each one of us downing the tablets. There was only one problem with this scenario. We had no water. None of us wanted to wuss out in front of the others, so we all had to reach down and swallow the pill whole. Some people gagged. But now I can take any pill (aspirin, etc.) without water. It is a minor party trick that leaves some people wincing.

Is there anymore on this? I find it kinda of hard to believe. There are so many that have taken these pills for so long, you'd think there'd be more press if there is anything to it. I've taken these things (or a form of them) off and on for the past 20 years. The only time I can actually remember the same pill you noted was in 1999-- for a few months I was on them. I have the same "party trick" that leaves my wife wincing every time....

Count it the greatest sin to prefer life to honor, and for the sake of living to lose what makes it worth living.

If you'd been where I'd been... if you'd seen the things I'd seen!...... you'd be me... Or someone following me around...

Yes, the seven day pill is the one being referenced. There was a news story about it not too long ago about some people having reactions, but the odds were something like 1:10,000 would have any reaction. Only a few of those would have severe psychological problems/reactions. Also made it into an episode of Law and Order and not handled very "military friendly"-- all the old cliches of military coverups and psycho soldiers.
