Does anyone know where to find info on marine recruits that died in boot camp? I was in Plt 1120 MCRD San Diego, CA in November-December 1967.2 recruits died while in boot camp with me. One of them was while on a force march. He ran till he dropped, dead.In another platoon at the rifle range we were at the range and heard the range master tell the platoon on the left "with a magizine and 5 rounds, lock and load" Seconds later we heard 5 rapid shots. the recruit killed his drill instructor.
Also, there was a congressional investigation on brutality in Marine Corp boot camp going on at the time. I've been trying to document this but info on 60s era training is next to impossible to get. Would really apreciate any pointers or help

The best advice I can give you if you are really intersted in pursuing that line is to request via the freedom of information act, all information from specific time frames, involving specific incidents at specific locations.

Here is the Public Affairs Office phone number at MCRD San Diego for starters. You will have to submit in writing your request and they should be able to provide you with either links or mailing address for requests of this nature.

MCRD Public Affairs Office - (619) 524-8724

Don't expect them to do all your research for you.

I haven't got a clue how to change people, but I am keeping a long list of prospective candidates just in case I figure it out!

thank you much. I'm sure they wont try to find out anything more than Exactly what I ask for. The Marine Corp doesn"t like to talk about training in those days, late 60s. Again, thank you much
