Once upon a time I joined the military as a female mechanic. I enjoyed it so much I decided that this is what I would do until retirement. I could do more pushups than many of the men in my platoon and I was ready to be the best mechainc that I could be. Then one day, not to long after basic training I started getting harassed by the men that I worked beside everyday. It was horrible. I finally utilized my chain of command convinced that the military would do me right, but instead I was black listed, backed into a cornor until I had no choice but to leave the military or keep getting wrote up. I left, lost my benefits, lost my faith in the military and started completely over once again as a civillian. Although I survived the ordeal I will never forget this experience and I will forever have little respect for our military. The End.

warriorethos,
Not trying to be rude but some of us current/prior military are not like the ppl that you mention. I don't see why you can not see that. I understand what these ppl did to you was not the correct thing to do and of course the higher up should have corrected it immediately. A question for you really quick. If you why would you be posting in a military based forum? I'm not saying you should leave and not post again that is far from what I am saying. I would just like to know why. If you'd been where I'd been... if you'd seen the things I'd seen!...... you'd be me... Or someone following me around... |

Hey XX, I appreciate you respecting my position, as I in turn respect yours. However, I can not help but have little faith in a military system which claims to uphold our values and rights under the constitution but then violates these important things at every turn. I guess I should stress that I pray for all those individuals who have/are now serving in combat and putting their life on the line, many of them young, many not knowing what they were really in for when they signed up. But as a whole you must understand that military personel would not inflict those things on other people if our military leaders made it clear that sexual harassment, etc would not be tolerated to begin with - its got to be more than a piece of paper you sign at the recruiting station - where we all know the lies and bullshit really begin. Furthermore, I post my opinions about the Army everywhere - not just here- I want my message to get out, change is not possible if issues are not dealt with head on. So I empathize little with those ppl who still want to make light of problems in the military.

warriorthos....sexual harrassment IS one of the dirty little secrets in the military. The military has come along way in combating it though. But I don't think it will ever be completely eliminated.

I seen what you been thru, and many men don't like how the females were treated...just to let you know,,men also who back up the females were almost as black listed within the command..
I don't know if things changed so much from the 7 yrs i'v been out..I just don't see that ever ending,, in any venue..some men are born to be dogs.....and there is two sides to harassment...abuser and abused |
