PRIDE
To my fallen comrades! I have a form of pride many wouldnt know, God help you if you step on me-friend or foe. I walk about this earth and no one notices me, You never want to be my enemy. Because where i am there are many like me, We move as a team for you to never see. You fight us without realizing who we are, Never knowing what we give up to go this far. So before you make another selfless act, Try to approach us with a little more tact. We forfeit family and friends to support our flag, Even though more times than not our hearts do drag. We lose comrades almost every day, But to ask us, we would not say. Yes, we hurt and Yes, we bleed, But we do not suffer from poverty and greed. For we are SOLDIERS each and every one, If your on our bad side, SON you better run! Roseanne Marie Klein Copyright ©2005 Roseanne Marie Klein |

This one was sent to me by a friend:
THE FINAL INSPECTION The soldier stood and faced his God, Which always comes to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining, Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you ? Have you always turned the other cheek ? To My Church have you been true?" The soldier squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, When the bills got just too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand. There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God. "Step forward now, you soldier, You've borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell." |

"I was with that which others did not want to be,
I went to where others feared to go, and did what others failed to do. I asked nothing of those who gave nothing, and reluctantly accepted the thought of eternal loneliness that I feel. I have seen the face of terror, felt the stinging cold of fear, And enjoyed the sweet taste of a moments love. I have cried pain and hope, But most of all I have lived times others would say were best forgotten. At least some day I'll be able to say, That I was proud what I was, A Soldier." ~anonymous |
