I went through MCRD San Diego in 1993. Two incidents I will never forget happened and follows:
#1 We were sitting in the quarter deck (indian style) for mail call. All of the sudden from out of nowhere a recruit sitting next to me busts ass. It was loud! DI - "OH hell f*%king no! Recruit XXX, why the hell does your fart smell like d!ck?! Get in the rain room and wash your ass!!! The rest of you....TURN ON THE VACUUM!" Us - "TURN ON THE VACUUM AYE SIR!" To which the DI had us all jump to attention, take a deep deep breath to inhale the fart, run outside, and blow it out. This was done a total of 5 or so times. All the while you could her the DI in the DI hut laughing his ass off. ---- #2 Standing outside the barracks (parade rest) right after getting IT'd in the sand, one recruit decides to step on a cockroach walking by his foot. I don't know how the DI heard it but he charged forward breaking ranks straight to the guilty recruit. DI - 'Recruit Retard! Did you just kill my pet?! Recruit ' "SIR NO SIR" DI - "So you're telling me my pet just decided to KILL himself?!" Recruit - 'Sir, this recruit didn't know it was the Drill Instructors pet." DI - 'Well god damnit, you better get down there and put him back together, do you understand me?!' To which the recruit immediatley jumped to the floor and slowly mushed the roach into one dead heap of goo and stood back up with the roach in hand. After doing so the DI said to the recruit 'As you were recruit. I left my pet at home.', and walked away. LOL |

friends New Soldier Out of boot camp and through Iraq, I can say the best description of seeing both sides of starting out and going through. Would be to " Keep your FRIENDS close but your ENEMIES closer" now there is an Italian statement worth remembering. I haven't been through the drilling process but i'm sure it's slike screaming at a plant for hours. Good luck! |

My son told me this one--
His DI would stretch out his arm and slightly curl his fingers toward an object. Then his hand would begin to shake slightly. A recruit would then get up and run to the object and bring it to the DI. The DI called it "using the force" to fetch the items he wanted. |

*LOL* I love these! Though, I got to say there is something mentally wrong with the USMC DI's. I kind of like it!
One story that my soldier told me of his boot camp experience that was sort of funny: The moment he got off the bus his drill sergeant had him doing pushups, and simply walked away leaving him there still doing pushups. Later another D.S told him to stop doing pushups, and the reason that his other D.S had him doing pushups, and walked away was that he was going to laugh at him. My soldier was born in The Virgin Islands and moved to the U.S when he was 16, so he had a very thick Caribbean accent and long hair. He was also 125lbs soaking wet. My soldier is now around 160 and very muscular. I am sure that his D.S’s would be very proud of the wonderful soldier he has become. |

Thanks all for the really funny stories. I have a loved one who is in basic now. I'm sure have his own to share when he is done.
