As far as I know the Navy is the same way. The Air Force on the other hand is a little more lenient. I got a Morrocan guy flying an F-16 out of flight school. You have to be a citizen in order to get promoted past corporal but... He's got his green card which is what u need to apply. U can get a green card pretty easy. I hope to see u taking out fighters down near the ground.

I found this ain't it ain't cheap.

Visitor and Business Visas
Visiting the U.S. for business and pleasure

Visitor (B-2) and business visas (B-1) are the most common non-immigrant visas issued. Although you can see some sights while in the U.S. on a business visa, you cannot conduct business if you entered the country as a tourist. Visas are not interchangeable. Be sure you chose the right visa for your trip's purpose, and bring your passport along with all adequate supporting documentation.

How long are B-1 and B-2 visas valid?
These visas are valid for anywhere between 3 months to 10 years, and can be extended under special circumstances. Although your visa may be approved for a certain length of time, a border official can restrict the limit of your stay.

Be sure to check the I-94 form the official gives you when you enter the country. It will be marked with the date you must leave the country. Overstaying this date can prevent you from returning to the U.S. in the future.

What are the restrictions on a business visa (B-1)?
Although the visa may be valid for up to 10 years, you will normally be allowed to stay only six months at a time. A B-1 visa doesn't allow you to bring your spouse or children with you, but they will most likely be able to travel with you under their own B-2 visas. If you enter the U.S. under a B-1 business visa, you can:

* Attend science / research conventions, trade shows, conferences and seminars
* Negotiate contracts
* Consult with business associates
* Conduct independent research
* Appear as a witness in a legal trial

However, you cannot get paid a salary or wages by a U.S. company for work done while you're on U.S. soil. If you conduct your research and complete your work when you return to your home country, you can be paid in U.S. dollars.

How do I get a B-1 or B-2 visa?
Apply at the nearest U.S. consulate or embassy.

What are the restrictions on a B-2 (Visitors for Pleasure) visa?
The B-2 visa is valid anywhere from 90 days to a year. If you enter the U.S. under this visa you can:

* Visit friends and relatives
* Take a tour or a vacation
* Get specially arranged medical treatment

Count it the greatest sin to prefer life to honor, and for the sake of living to lose what makes it worth living.

lancer man, what you are saying is BS. Marrocans don't fly F16s in the USAF. It would be a national security issue with the President getting involved.

I see you came across our recent poser. This guy claimed to be a B-1 pilot, a SR-71 pilot, a F-14 pilot (as a MSGT in the Navy to boot!) Also claimed to have been saved on a combat mission over Iraq and having his B-1 get 16 rounds into his bomber by a Mig 29. This Mig 29 was shot down by a F-22 Raptor. Oh yeah, he also landed his B-1 back at base in Kuwait. (the only airfield capable of landing such a heavy aircraft is the Kuwait International Airport, which is also off limits to any military flights) The only US military aircraft to ever land there (C-130) was on fire and crash landed. Its still there or whats left of it after the bull dozers pushed it off to the side.

So yeah, he is pretty much full of sh*t.

I was having fun until he was a Sgt. in the Navy then it pissed me off knowing I could have been a Pilot for all those years being in the Rate instead of Rank.

Gunny I know there are fakes, weirdos, imposters, locos and psychos in this forum. I fell for him because he sounded like a foreign guy. I need to be more careful in the future.

Hello,

I am a 23 years French Lance Corporal.
I currently have just over 4 years of service as a combat life saver.
I have just returned from Afghanistan where I spent 6 months.

You will tell me why I want to leave the French army, there are several reasons such as equipment (I saw the differences between the U.S. Army and us ...), the problem of current reforms, etc. ...

I have currently 10 months of service before the end of my contract of 5 years.

I like the army, I like cohesion, discipline and I think I can find what I want in the Marines.

My ethic is that, if we want to become a citizen of a country, must serve in its armed forces (as the French Foreign Legion)

My question is: As (former) soldier, will my green card application and enlistment in the Marines will be a little easier?

Thank you for your responses. Smiler

Nope. Prior military service has no bearing on becoming a US citizen.

I can relate to your observation concerning equipment. As a Marine, our equipment was usually ten to twenty years out of date by the time it filtered down to us for use. Yet, while deployed, the equipment that our Army has available was much newer and more advanced that what was provided for us to use and fight with. Marines have always done more with less for a very long time.

See where you are at in ten months before making the decision to change citizenship. Alot can happen between now and then.

I understand the USA conducts (or has conducted) 'raffles' on green cards throughout the world. 50T/year last I heard. But this info may be old stuff in view of the terrorist situation. To get a green card is relatively easy: The applicant goes to the nearest US Consulate and applies. They check him/her and if things are OK he/she gets a visa (green card). That's it.

Tenh, Gunny, I need to correct you on the citizenship issue: 'If a serviceman/woman in uniform is applying for US citizenship he/she will be allowed to enter the process BEFORE the regular waiting period is over (I believe that is five years). So they can become citizens in say 3 years. I believe that is only fair.

The US and Great-Britain have been allies for so long and in so many wars that i think it won't be that hard for you to join the US Militairy, but offcourse they'll wonder why? The British militairy is pretty is as advanced in warfare as the US Militairy..

True but don't forget that the US also fought wars with Britain, although it is history. Nevertheless, you can't just join the US Forces as a Brit. because you are still a foreigner no matter how pro US you might be. You must still go through the legal process. Don't forget the USA, despite what some people say or believe, is still a land with laws and order (thanks Odin).
