I was discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard after a kidney surgery and a medboard. I was active duty for nine years with no discipline problems. Loved being in and faught the medboad every step of the way; however, I eventually gave in and singed the release paperwork. I was issued a Re entry code of RE3p and seperation code of JFL. I have since had no problems, it had been almost ten years from my release date. I have also obtained a Master's degree. This is my delemma. I was told that with the re entry code of Re3 I could return to active duty but need a waiver. The only thing is I can't find a recruiter willing to talk to me from any branch of service; however, I read these threads and see that soldiers with drug promblems and even AWOl are easily allowed re entry. It seems an Honorable discharge after 9 years and a medical board is taboo. Any information would be helpful thanks.

Reckon it all depends on your age and your condition. The waiver part is correct seeing how you were medboarded out. Gotta get the doc's to say you are fit for duty. Any chances of you getting a doc to certify you before you go speak to a recruiter?
Know what you mean about then taking in the potheads and the scum suckers that go AWOL. I can understand making mistakes when being younger, lord knows I've made my share of them, but in all honesty making mistakes is how we learn. This is recognized and the majority do well in the military. As you were med boarded out, you will have to get a med board to reverse that ruling. Speak to a recruiter and if he won't give you the time of day, ask him for his superior's name address and phone number. Use the chain of command. You already know the rules, make them work for you. Thank you for your input. I Really didn't know that I had to be medboarded back in. I will Use the chain of command if needed. I have had many Doctors already certify me as fit for military duty. It is just the recuriters who will not even try. there quote is " with a RE3p and severance pay, There in no chance in the world for your return" Then I read that a person who was popped for drugs and went awol is now allowed re entry. I would never dishonor my service or myself with such acts, and I am told " Take a hike" Thank you again I will let you know how thigs turn out.

It'll be a medical review board to reverse the RE3P and severance package. I would start there. You might want to google the RE3P code and enter some search terms to get down to the review board process steps.

Gunny, Thank you again. I am 37 years old and The Med board was for a kidney surgery. Turns out to be nothing an out pouching on my kidney. It was removed during the surgery Considered a deformity and no further problems. exists. I am fine now. In great shape and ready to finish what I started in 1991. I will start the research process. Thank you again Gunny.

hey it seems like we are going through the same set of problems. i was also discharged with an RE3P and $4200 in serverance pay. I have had to chase the recruiters higher up's in order to gain any progress. Currently My documents are sitting up at MEPS. THis apears to be the greatest hurdle. You must have all your paper work prior to even seeing the recruiter. DD214 med board paper, medical records, a letter from your doctor, and lastly a leter from you. Everything must be perfect. trust me when I say you must have your ducks in a row...lol

Vader1 I found out that most recruiters have to work really hard to get a RE3P back in the service. This takes time away from them trying to get new blood and meeting their quota. They will not be able to count you seeings that you have already been in. There isn't really any reason for the recruiter to want to help. Also since we were boarded out, we have to be boarded back in. I am at the point of just giving up. If it is the dope smokers and AWOL people they want back in, then more power to them. Seems that A RE4 is better than an RE3P. Good luck I will keep everyone posted on my success or failure as it turns out.
