I stand corrected, but it is a good reason.

Count it the greatest sin to prefer life to honor, and for the sake of living to lose what makes it worth living.

The "mentally handicaped" are the ones who invent all the stuff you use. BTW I never went AWOL I was released with an RE-3, if they had forced the issue I would have stayed in and pretended to care just enough not to get hazed and make it through the weekend drill.

Would you hang out somewhere on your weekend where people yelled at you. You would go somewhere else, in my eyes the military gets no special treatment from any other organization. I work during the week as a professional and then am treated like a private on the weekend, sorry thats a no go with me I hold a professional degree and expect to be treated as such otherwise I will find other things to do with MY weekend. There should be no exceptions made for the "military" a professional is a professional

geez rppearso....had you been able to complete your training and actually pinned on those zero's bars and became an OFFICER in the Guard, you would have gotten just that.

Now your down to taking out your own failure on a 15 year old young adult who is trying to make something of his life. Think about your actions and the fact that all in here are well aware of your true feelings and what happened to your attempt at serving your state. I'm not bringing up service to your country, because you balked at that and have stated so repeatedly.

Instead of berating youngsters in here, you should be offerring sound advice and other options to these kids seeing how you are such a proffessional.

I have nothing against people wanting to make a life for themselves, I am all for that. Some people are cut out for a career in the military all I am doing is simply filling in the gaps between the commercials and recruiters sugar coating of the reality of the (at least part of) military. I also like to debunk the myths that fly around here regarding "becoming a pilot" or "military experience will put me above civilian counter parts". I have had a lot of experience in different things for my age, you may not like my take on different things but I almost always call a spade a spade, if squid wants to rush off to marine basic when he graduates, fine, but he ought to at least have some idea of what to expect other than the nastalgic war stories and tales of heroism and all the cool stuff they use (that by the way is built by contractors, lol), serving your country hooah whatever, that crap did not mean anything when I was digging a fox hole with my gas mask on (tear gas) and laying in a frozen hole for a day in basic, there was no cool music playing it just sucked ass, I still cant even laugh about it to this day it sucked that bad.

You wont get along to well with the doctors or lawyers in the military because thats exactly what happens, they become automatic O-3 or O-4 (they might go through a 2-4 week into to the military where they watch some slides on military rank etc). I guess engineers are not professionals in there eyes so I guess we don't need to be there that simple. You know there true need for people when the BS goes away and you can get down to business, if the BS endures then they don't really need you. I flat out refuse to be hazed period, im a professional.

rppearso, thats fine and I do understand what you are trying to do in your own way, but you are not coming across in what could be ever construed as constructive, especially when communicating to those you could be trying to mentor into your line of thought or way of life.

Have you noticed that I haven't even attempted to provide any guidence to squid with what he is planning? First off he hasn't asked, secondly, he's been diverted/overly focused with trading insults with you.

Both of you need to take a step back as this board isn't meant for that type of behaviour, especially from a supposed proffessional.

I know you well enough to know when you are being serious and when you are not. You know the same about me. Most of the time I'm just out for a good laugh and to lighten the mood in here.

Both of you need to knock it off and try to actually engage in a more meaningful dialog with each other without resorting to insults.

I'm sorry Sir. I respect ronald for serving his country for the time he did, but because it didnt work rite for him doesnt mean he should be trying to discourage people from trying to join the Military. And ronald, I apologise for any mean things I might have said to you, we here just dont appreciate you possibly destroying the future careers of young people.....
