I do have a bias, but you need to go for it as I went for it, the old addage shoot for the moon and if you miss at least you are amongst the stars. I missed (SAT scores) but I can not complain because I have a chemical engineering degree, a good job and about 2 years left to get my PE then I will start saving for my own plane.
If you can get into the academy and dodge the BS or at least most of it, you will be set up nice, you will have a shoe in for being a fighter pilot and be a commissioned officer when you get out, I have met and flown with air force pilots and they are a whole different breed, you will never or rarely ever be exposed to the likes of people like cavscout (and if you do you will out rank him and just remember to tell him to take a long walk off a short plank) and life will be good. I got tangled in the weeds with the alluer of army flight school, the problem with army flight is you are way to integrated with combat arms personalities through the nonsence training process (ie anything nonflight related, basic/OCS), and they have a tendency to bring you down, they spew hatred, speak harshly, etc, you have met them there the same dick heads that become cops, they want to lord there power over people and say things like im going to shoot my own men to complete the mission, its a way hardliner philosophy and even half the officers in the army are of that mind set so you are in a no win situation. The air force is a much different culture, most are soft spoken and it is more of a team atmosphere, the same highlevel philosophys apply that the commanding officer makes the final decision but you are not going to get your ass chewed because you did not come to parade rest at the right time when you were tring to think through a problem, it totally messes with your whole thought process and it then pisses me off that they inturupted my whole train of thought for something that trivial. The army cares less about solving problems and more about power and control. Daily quality of life makes a big difference when you have to live it. What ever you do dont go army, then you have to deal with people like cavscout who will knife you in the back because he thinks your a pussy. The really sad thing is you dont have to be a piece of crap like cavscout to complete the mission. You have much better unit cohesion when you dont treat people like crap or lord over them (its one thing to be in charge and another to lord over someone with your rank). But why do that when you can just stab the pussy Fers in the back and move forward in your blood thirsty rage. |

Ronald, you are still so far away from the real world that all you can see is space.

Oh no, I can see some stars too. I just had bad timing with the air force, number of people being shot down/retire < Number of people applying for a pilot slot. And the army has substandard quality of life that overwhelms the positive side of getting some rotar time so while they had slots avalible I was not willing to live like a third class citizen to get it.

And usually in the rare occasion a fixed wing fighter is shot down the pilot almost always lives so now you have one less plane and an extra pilot.

Anyone here who has flown jets for the AF or helicopters for the Army have any input they can give? I appreciate the help.
