Hello, I've been interested in joining the military as long as i can remember, unfortunately 2 months ago i did something stupid and was pulled over for a dui. i was charged and convicted of a dui and possession of a hypodermic instrument is there any chance in the future when this blows over that i'll be able to join? any input would be appreciated. thanks

As you stated you did a stupid thing, I don't think that hypo/dui will blow over anytime soon. Sorry Frowner

Good friend of mine joined the Marines with 2 prior DUI's.
What will happen with the Marine Corps (cant speak for other services) is that it will have to go up the theoretical chain, and get approval from some brass. And it will be a waiver.
Which might disqualify you from some jobs, jobs requiring top secret or better clearance. But even if thats the case you could wait out your first enlistment then make a lat move to one of those high profile jobs. Like MSG, Aircrew, or DI.
Just let your recruiter know, dont hide ANYTHING from him, it will only hurt you.

Hmmmm, possession of syringe or hypodermic instrument is evidence of intravenous drug use. Coachman's right, that won't blow over or go away.

On the other hand, McLeod raises a good point, talk to the recruiter for the best answers.

By the way, if you hadn't got caught, would you still be doing it?
