Hi, I am a current freshman entering my soph. year in highschool. I am really wanting to get into the naval academy but I've heard that once I gradeuate I can go to the marines? And if I were to go to the marines I would be higher ranked than most? not quite sure, kinda new to all this...My uncle is a staff sgt. and I've always wanted to look at going to the academy. I am a 3.8-4.3 student, start on varsity basketball and took 5th at state in golf (i know golf isnt really the most athletic sport just putting it out there). I have probably 150 hours of community service atleast...my family comes from political background grandfather was a senator...(so would that help with nominations?)...please help! want to know if i even have a shot at getting in...if so what i need to improve on thanks AB

Ab2009, if I were in your place I would simply download the application requirements. Your story sounds good but I don't believe you have to be the prezz's son or a national athlete to enter the NA. The Marines don't take Officers that would rather be Navy, so it is your choice and no you will not be higher ranked, why should you be? Another wisdom: Rank in the military is max nix in many cases. Even between Officers and NCOs. It is more like Teamwork, organization, management, cameraderie and getting the mission accomplished. Get it?

Please refer to the other Annapolis thread that mentions spelling and grammar.
USNA will graduate anywhere between 12-22+% Marines, so if you apply for it during your 2nd Class year at USNA, you'll go through a series of interviews during Service Selection. Don't be deadset on just the Academy. If your goal is a commission, look at all possibilites of commissioning sources (ROTCs, USNA, etc.) and apply to all of them. When the acceptance letters come back, pick the one you want the most. If it's just the Academy you want, you can be waiting for many years and many applications, and there's a possibility you'll age out. una per praesidium |
