I'm a single mother to a 15 month old. Now, my daughter is living with my parents and I. Her father isn't in the picture.
I talked to one of those online Air Force guys and he told me I can't do active duty, but I can do Reserve. Thing is, I'd rather join the Marines. If I gotta do Reserve, then that's fine by me. Except I'm not sure if it's the same thing with the Marines. Anyone have an idea?

Not sure, but I don't think the single mom thing would be an issue as long as the child has some stability with your parents...though there might be rules on the age of a child...not sure. Ask a Marine recruiter, they'll give a good answer.

first, i would like to congratulate you for holding the responsibility of being a single mom.

i'm not really sure about your question but i think that will not cause any problem as long as the child is taken good care of.

it is possible, but there are some things you have to do first. firstly, you have to give full custody of your child to your parents or another person. then you have to wait a couple months before you qualify.

oh, and i know how hard it is being a single mother. my mom was the same way. i have to say, you are much stronger than myself.

I'm not a single mom, but I WAS a single dad when I joined the army at age 21. The army required that I have (through the court system) a legal gaurdian. That legal guardian was my Mom and Dad, it's quick and easy.

As long as you have a good family care plan you should be good to go. I recived 3 single mothers and one single dad in my unit straight out of AIT and they all deployed with us and did a great job, it did help that they had great family support.
