When I enlisted in MEPS, I put on my contract for 6 years but now I want to change it to 4 years... My recruiter said that changing that wont be a problem and that I will be able to change it from 6 to 4 when I go back up to MEPS the day I leave for basic...
Is this true or is he lying and/or is there another way to change it back to 4 years?! Jared D. Barlett |

What did you sign up for? Some jobs may require more than the initial 4 years. Others may offer bonuses or promotions if you sign this "contract" that says you'll tack on more years. It's one thing to hear you've signed on for 6, but hearing that it's possible to lessen your contract is new to me.

What BJD said. Your job skill might require a six year enlistment. Also.....and I'm not completely sure about this, but....limited experience from dealing with my son's recruiter-- There are some things/options that a recruiter is "authorized". For instance-- his office may only be allowed to sign so many 4 yr contracts (I don't know if this is true, but I do know it is true of MOS skill sets). He's "run out" of his four year contracts, but he knows that several offices in his region (all under the MEPS) have plenty of four year contracts. Once you're at MEPS you can "swap" for one of those contracts. Clear as mud? Good, my job here is done.....
That said, tell him you'll refuse to ship to boot camp from MEPS without that deal if you're really set on this four year contract. |
