I will be entering my sophmore year of college. Coming out of HS I had seriously considered the academies but was talked out of it by my parents. Now, after attending a regular university for 1 year I still have a strong desire to serve. My question is, considering I will be applying this year I will have already completed 2 years of college, should I attempt to go to the Naval Academy and startover or would Marine PLC be a better choice for me? I realize the Academy is very tough to get into and by no means I am guaranteed to get in, but I have competitive grades and test scores so I do have a shot to get in. Any insights and advice about the Academy, PLC and/or my specific situation is greatly appreciated.

Finish what you started first...college. Then take a good look around to see exactly what you want/need to do with your life. If its to serve, then you stand a much better chance of becoming an officer with the degree.

Try looking into a ROTC program.

What Gunny said, BTW how old are you gunny?
If you dont care about what job you get ROTC is a good option or you can just concentrate on school and when you get out if they have "openings" for what you want to do, great, if not oh well you still have a degree. The academy is a good option if you want to be a pilot other than that the academy is only a brownie point when you get in the military and its alot of suffering for a few brownie points (unless you want a pilot slot in which case it is almost guarenteed) unless you get dirt kicked in your eyes and are DQed for vision. |
