You never know, Gunny.. there might be a spot open for you.. they've upped the age for inductees to boost the levels so that the over-40 crowd can get back into desert boots these days...

getting so it isn't that weird that moms and dads can serve with the kids..[ not that I'd know anything 'bout that LOL ]

By the by Calvin....welcome to the site. (run a search on rrpearso and all of his posts and you'll see what I'm talking about)

I wonder if there is a pre-Basic Basic course to help the ' less than agile ' get their ' figures' back before having to crawl under barbed wire and through sewer pipes.. Not sure that the rope cross would support my weight at the moment...

Do they issue cam-coloured corsets so those of a certain age don't spill over the combat pants too much?
Hate to see them change the " Proud and the Few " to " The Fat and the 'Whew' "

Maybe they can give Dead Eye Dick and Rummsy an ' exemption ' certificate and put them out for a tour...[ may need the khaki Depends from stores, though ]...

You have to admit I keep things lively in here. Even though I hated being in the army guard I thank God I joined the guard instead of the active army (the guard was very easy to walk away from), I would have been a complete mental case after a year in the real army, actually I probably would have went AWOL before that happened and done the same thing im doing now.

If you really think that, then you are a total idiot.

The national guard is the way to go, you can get a taste of the army and if you decide you dont like it its alot easier to spit it out. Make sure to do the split option that way if you come back disenfranchised after basic you can opt out (walk away) before going to AIT that way you are not deployable while you are waiting for your contract to expire. On the flip side if you like it you can stay in and retire or go active. The guard is a way to stick your feet in with out completely jumping in.

Just be careful if you take any monitary bounus make sure to keep it in an account in case you do decide to walk away you can give back the money, if you find out you live and breath the hardliner way then spend it.

maybe if the army gaurd adopted all of the quality of life aspects that the air gaurd has you wouldent have the air force down sizing and the army struggling to recruit. And dont BS me by trying to tell me the army is doing just fine.

US Army seen reaching recruiting goal despite war

By Will Dunham
Reuters
Thursday, August 10, 2006; 4:34 PM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Army, which fell short in recruiting last year, made its 14th straight monthly goal in July and is expected to hit its 2006 target despite the Iraq war making recruiting harder, officials said on Thursday.

Jeff Spara, in charge of Army recruiting policy, denied the Army has been making its recruiting goals by taking lower-quality volunteers who previously might have been rejected, as some experts contend.

Then why is the Air Force making cut backs and the army is still recruiting?

Probably because we are not fighting an air war?

Don't know about the USAF, but the USN, while not cutting back, is making changes in their structure that will include less "sailors". They have added ground troops, force protection forces, intelligence Sailors, and more medical personnel (to take care of the Marines). Many of these people will come off the ships. Technology, automation, and the newer generation of ships will require less people to sail them. USAF may be experiencing the same thing.

Where did this TXARNG guy go anyways, he wants to come here and try to recruit and yet not talk about any of the hot button issues that face new recruits and the harsh realities of what the military is. The national guard chews you up and spits you out, you are expected to deploy with active duty but when you get back you are not afforded weekly pay and benifits. So you get used like a whore, you are expected to leave your job and family and come back like nothing happened, who is not living in reality here. Before I joined everyone refered to it as the national gaurd but once I was in the tone changed to "you see that shirt you are wearing boy that says army" what ever dude dont fing lecture me.

The national guard was ment for state defense not foriegn deployment other than major world wars. They are being deployed exponentially more than ever before since WW2, and this is just a mismanaged pissing match in the middle east, how could this nation ever hope to engage in a major war again against nations that can retaliate on our own soil (im not talking about plane jackers, im talking foriegn navys and air forces actually engaging us on our own soil). Once you loose the trust of the people you loose the ability to defend this nation against a real enemy.

You can make what ever character attacks against me you want but it does not change reality, and it does not change the fact that the american people are getting fed up with this hardliner mentality.
