My husband is trying to get back in the active army. He has 3 years in. He was an infantry man stationed in Alaska. He got demoted reight before getting out (in 2003).He has been to all kinds of recruiters..
They all have said "go in the guard or reserves to get your rank back, and then go into the active army." But none of them understand thats not his goal.He wants to be active and serve now. Not wait a year or more to get back in. Does anyone have any suggestions? |

It sounds like your husband has gotten a lot of advice already... he just don't like the advice! I don't know why he was demoted and assuming it was a relatively 'minor infraction' and that he was 'honorably discharged'... we are left with... HE doesn't want to 'wait a year'... and HE wants to be active... and HE wants to 'serve' NOW! ...quite frankly, it sounds like he has a very difficult time... a historical pattern... of 'wanting stuff', without the discipline that is required to 'get stuff'... You sound like a good and caring wife, trying to help your husband... secure his goals... and although that is admirable on one level... at some point in time... you should ask yourself... "Am I an 'enabler'?" My advice would be to stop trying to help your husband get what he wants... and help yourself get what you want! |

i herd theres a pretty good sign on bonus for the gaurds, and i've heard there's another bonus if you cross from reserve to avtive, and by the time he were to get his rank back, that cross over bonus would prolly be higher. but that doesn't help his "NOW" problem, but would get yas some extra dough. but thats all i can say.

Why only 3 years? Sounds like an odd number... 2 or 4 would make sense. Did he get honorably discharged? Was it a medical discharge? Administrative?
If the recruiters are telling him that, then that may well be his only option. Read on military.about.com if you want to see why no recruiter would turn away an eligible applicant (it's a numbers game, as they say). |
