Hello everyone,
Like the subject states I'm working on joining the Marine Corps. I am now having some doubts about the recruiters truthfulness and I hope some of you can help elevite them. First off, I want to me an MP. I'd like to know what the likelyhood is of me being trained to do that, just to be sent out on the front lines as soon as I deploy. I'm like another guy on this forum, I'm not gunho about Bsing with other people, nor am I joining to KILL KILL KILL! I want to be trained as an MP to work as an MP. I will do what needs to be done reguardless but I want to know, is it probable I will be shoved to the front lines upon deployment? Or will I get to carry out my duties as an Mp?

Also, how much of what the recruiter says should I believ? I realize to them I am just another number, but how much is fact and what is just what I want to hear?

I have more questions but I'll wait for response from this one first. Thanks for any help you can provide.

What's "the front lines" mean to you? As an MP, your duties would include security details (to include convoy operations), detainee handling, and providing "MP duties" to include those duties on "the front lines". Sorry to say it, but almost every Marine in today's conflicts are on the front lines because there are no front lines. MPs traditionally provide security in the "rear". Only, there is no rear (the closest we have to it is the "Green Zone" in Iraq). You will be in a combat environment. The Marine Corps Commandant has stated that every Marine will do time in a combat environment.

Will you be sent immediately after training? Maybe, maybe not. But you will go.

I don't get the question "will I get to carry out the duties as an MP?". Do you mean will you get to be a cop? Yes. While you're in The States. But we're at war. During times of war the MPs also have a combat mission; secure areas for troop operations. This includes combat operations.

I appreciate the quick response. I'll admit I'm scared about being in a combat zone but I'd like to think that after I'm done my Basic and MOS training, that I will be well ready to survive combat.

Wackyman, something else: To be a cop or MP is connected with danger even in the US. Why do they carry weapons? The police is the last wall between us and chaos. What I am trying to say is that police is not exactly a sendentary or tranquil job and by its nature is connected with dangerous activities.

Hmmm, Basic training (bootcamp) and MOS training will provide rudementry or entry level training for combat situations. The rest is absorbed from your leaders and your peers.

It's OK to be scared. It's the guys that aren't scared that worry me....The USMC has some of the best training in the world. You'll be prepared, but never stop preparing (either on your own, or seeking additional training).
