Hey there

When I was 10, ever since I went to an Airshow I had this dream of becoming a pilot. When I got out of High Schools there were some changes and never thought I'd would ever join the Military. Now I am 27, single, have some college and I want to know if am I still ontime to become what I want to do in the Air Force. I'd be awesome if I purse to be a Thunderbird ha ha but who knows. I been told by friends that im too late by the time I'm in, I will be in my late 30's and should of done it in my early 20's. What do you guys think?

Go and actually talk to a military recruiter first. Then come back with some of your questions.

The air force won't accept anyone under 27 for pilot. Try the Army, they just raised the age for helicopter pilot to 32.

no you can't be over the age. Because here at my base we have some young F-15 pilots. So that means under 27 unless you are over 27 but were already a fighter pilot.

Hey Sammy its ok

Well I saw the link from thegunny for the age requirement/cut off age and it seems like its 35yrs is the max. Now of course why didnt I do this at my early age, well thats up to me at that age I guess we dont know what we want. Well now I really wanna do something in my life. Now if I can't get in, well its ok no big deal I can still join the Air Force for the education and job oppurtunities. At least I will still be in the military. Being a pilot would be a great thing but like you said Sammy a Helicopter would be an awesome experience.

The cool thing about becoming an army helicopter pilot is, you don't need a college degree to do it. Although it helps, they say it isn't a requirement. Something that will help you in the selection process though, a private pilots license or any flying experience.

This might be an interesting option for you. You could get your civilian pilots licence and then get your aerobatic rating and get yourself a pitts special or an extra 300 and stunt fly in air shows as a civilian. I thought the civilan pilots were more impressive anyways. Army helicopter school is sketchy, you have to go through all of the regualr army stuff before you will be in a position to go to flight school (basic, OCS/WOCS, and then maybe they will let you go to flight school). I was the same as you were, I tried AF but they were going to put me as navigator and I wanted pilot, I tried the army option and it was not for me. Now I almost have my private pilots license and once I get enough money I will get my plane and the aerobatic rating. It is really demoralizing when you are getting yelled at by a drill sergant when you should be soaring the skys.
