I am a former active duty marine looking for help and information about staying in the Marine Corps and the procedures about how to become a reservist while finishing school and after obtaining my degree what exactly does becoming an officer entail?

I am sure this question seems a little odd so I can explain. I came in the Marine Corps in 2001 I loved my MOS but unfortunately due to consolidating and minimizing my MOS as an 01XX (Administrative Field) our field was going nowhere fast. Instead of competing for the very few boat spaces available and after much consideration on LAT Moving, (after having seen so many incompetent leaders, I didn't want to be an example of what I had seen too many times before). I decided to get out and finish school. Everyday now I look back and see how much I miss the Corps. I am almost done with college now and I have actually been trying to contact the prior service recruiter, I have called over a dozen times, and left messages. It seems as though he isn't taking me seriously or he just doesn't care. He hasn't returned a single phone call from me. I am getting very frustrated, I guess all I am really looking for is some information or possibly another contact that can help me help me or information on how to become a reservists until I am finished with college, and the options available for me as an officer once I receive my degree. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time,
Semper Fi

You, my friend, are what's known as a "retread". Recruiters do not get credit for retreads and can not be bothered with them (in many cases). Which is probably the reason for the treatment you're getting. You have to find a recruiter that cares. I was also a retread and called the next town in the county, then the next before I found a recruiter that would help me. That's one option, keep shopping for one until you find the guy who actually cares about Marines and not just his quota.

The other option (which has worked for some others) is to call straight to the top. Either Marine Force Reserve Command or the Mobilization Command. MOBCOM currently claims they will help Marines in your situation. Website with POC:

Thanks so much for your response! I contacted MOBCOM today via e-mail. The phone number and extension their website gives for some reason after dialing disconnects. However, I received a quick response back and I am working with someone now who is trying to help me with this information. I will keep my results posted incase other Marines are having trouble like this as well.

Thanks again for your help and assistance!
