Hi. I'm in the process of joining the Army or Army Reserve, and still really don't have much of an idea of what I want to do. I realize that getting deployed at least once is almost a certainty no matter what my MOS is. Like it or not, thats the job, and I am prepared to go when I'm needed. That said, Infantry isn't my first choice by a long shot. If base gets attacked, or if I'm needed, I'm prepared to fight no doubt, I just feel like I'm better suited as support.

I have two misdemeanors and a littering ticket on my criminal record, and my recruiter says he can get me a job as an Internment and Resettlement specialist. I didn't know I could get the security clearence with two misdemeanors. Is this true, or is my recruiter lying to me?

Also he said that I/R specialists never see combat since they work in prisons, not combat zones.

What are some other jobs in the Army or Army reserve that aren't as gun-ho as Infantry, Armor, and Artillery?

I would rather be a grunt than babysit a bunch of terriost in a prison are trying to stay away from a bomber. Try quartermaster corps (supply field)

No, he's not lying. It depends on the crime, but minor misdemeanors can be overlooked/waived for a clearance (especially if they are non-violent). Felonies are another story.

There are a butt-load of jobs out there, peruse some of the US Army jobs online. Just about everything you can think of from cook to computer repair.

hmmm, the recruiter is offering you the sure thing because those are the immediate openings that he has been tasked with filling. Take it under consideration if you feel thats what you want to do. If you desire something else, then speak up. If they can get you a security clearance for that job, then they can get it for any other.
