I've always wanted to pilot since I was 9 years old. I remember myself playing Battlefield and Microsoft Flight Simulator as long as I remember.
Currently, I'm 16 and just a couple days ago I had my first piloting experience in an airplane. I wish shocked, I fell in love with it more than I already was. It's my goal to join the Air Force and pilot. I understand I'll have hard ships, but for me short term suffering = long term gain. Anyways, I'm using my 5000 dollars I saved up and my parents are helping me out to pay for my Private Pilots license. Next year as a Senior I'm joining JROTC and in college I will do all 4 years ROTC. Currently I'm 5'10 and hoping to get a little taller, but not past that 6'4 mark. I have perfect 20/20 in each eye. One problem is right now though that I don't give it my all in school(well I started to about 2 weeks ago), and that I have very non-severe ADHD(but in these times, who doesnt) which I take pills for. I dont think the ADHD should slow me down, I went to the doctor for it 1 year ago but deep inside I think I just wanted a excuse . What are my chances of getting into the air force as a pilot? Now a even bigger question: What can I do to improve those chances? This message has been edited. Last edited by: KasparP, |

Kaspar, your PP license helps, but keep in mind that the USAF trains its pilots anew. Second you must maintain excellent health, no bloodpressure problems, no eye/hearing problems, no heart/lung stuff. In short, excellent health or you can forget it. The other 3 requirements are: Stamina (physical fitness), Education (at least a BA/BS, but you are taking full College ROTC so you are squared away in that respect) and talent (you are also squared away there because you have a PP). So, to sum it up you are on the right track. Another hint, get a private flight physical from a reputable MD. If he says OK you are good to go and keep your health that way. Stay away from drugs (excessive alcohol, they will check your liver values) and sign up for all flight stuff in ROTC (it's free for you). And if you make it and I'm still around send me a message.

Thank you so much for that post. I'm really excited to hear good feedback with my plans. I'll be going to get a flight physical this weekend! I should come back fine, and if I do I will stay like that(going to start working out more, eating healthy, not drinking at all, ect) Thanks alot MasterTanker, I'm going to make this happen. |
