Hey guys and gals. I was wondering what kind of reserve opportunities where out there for a guy like me...
I'm 32 y/o firefighter/paramedic. I'm prior service, former USMC 1993-1997 got out with honorable discharge. I was a 2531, field radio opertator. I'm married, my wife is a nurse and we are the parents of a beutiful baby girl. Since I got out of the Corps I got into EMS and I really love it. Even though I love the Corps and I wouldnt change anything, I do kind of wish that I had done some kind of field medic in the military when I was in. I mean I still love being a Marine, and don't regret for a second the path I chose, but if I knew at age 17 when I enlisted that I was going to make EMS my career then it would have been nice to have that kind of expirience as well. What I'm trying to get to is that I really miss being apart of the military and would really love to get more expirience working as a medic. I currently work for a County EMS agency in a decent size city of around 300k with a very high call volume. I was wondering what kind of reserve medic/rescue opportunities where out there for someone like me? Branch of service doesnt matter...I'll always be a Marine deep down inside =) Thanks for the time and replies S/F -Matt |

US Navy Corpsman is about it (on the "Marine" side of being a medic).
Unless-- MOS 7051 might turn you on; Summary. Personnel of MOS 7051 employ firefighting equipment and extinguishing materials to rescue victims involved in aircraft crashes and to fight fires in and around aircraft or structure. Typical duties include operating, servicing, inspecting, and testing aircraft firefighting and rescue vehicles, firefighting systems, controls, and rescue equipment; instructing personnel in the technique and procedures of fighting fires and operating heavy equipment to hoist and salvage all types of naval aircraft. Guys are also trained to be first responders in first aid and medical care. Details here: http://usmilitary.about.com/library/milinfo/marineenjobs/bl7051.htm And, BTW-- These guys are a hell of a lot of fun to work with. |
