Hey, I was wondering if it is possible to obtain a Master's degree while serving in the Air Force within four years (and is it for free?). I'm particularly aiming for a Pharm.D. And no, I do *not* want to do online degrees. They are not legit to employers.

I'm planning to obtain a BS before entering the Air Force, and I have absolute no idea what job I want in the Air Force. I have read up on some forums that it largely depends on the AF job's hours.

Please be honest with me, it will be largely appreciated. I'm currently a Senior in High School and my Father is severely pressuring me to join the military to obtain my Pharm.D. So any evidence of his claims will help. Smiler

Think of it this way. Most people who complete a masters degree from a bachelors in 4 years do so by devoting most of that 4 years to the degree in some way shape or form, ie your typical full time student.

As a member of the Air Force you will have to work a full time job to possibly include deploying, training, PCSing, TDY's, your normal duties, exercises long hour days. And then you will have to complete the same amout of work as most full time students to get your degree on time.

And since you do not want to do online degrees, is the school going to be offering classes when you are available? what if you are working swing shift or mid shift?

As for the cost, well I think at the moment Tuition asitance is at 100% but you will still have to pay for books etc. You can use the Montgomery GI Bill to 'top up' (pay off any addition costs) but only after 2 years of active service and once you start using it, you have 10 years to use it all or its all gone.

IMO, I do not think it is likely that someone can be in the military while at the same time complete a degree in the same time span as a full time student but I am sure it has been done.

Good luck in whatever you do

If you want to be a pharmisist go to school full time until you reach that goal then you can decide if you want to join the military later, maybe thats what your dad was talking about. If you want to go through 8 years of school after the military be very careful becasue there are limitations, clauses, etc to the GI bill, there are alot of hidden expences to college that the GI bill likely wont pick up. If you take out loans you wont have a problem paying them back as a pharmisist. Your dad really needs to stop pressuring you.
