I am an Operating Room nurse and considering joining the AF. I am married with children and we are all ok with the the decision to join the AF. However, becuase of my limited OR experience (9mos) the AF may only offer to bring me on as a Med Surg nurse and not an OR nurse. Would it be better to join as an OR nurse or as a Med Surg Nurse? Are OR nurses deployed frequently? Likewise, is the AF a good place to be for the nursing profession? I have many questions and I am hoping there is an AF nurse out there that can shed some light on the questions noted above and what their life is like as an AF nurse. Thanks, Lisa.

Lisa,
Hardly any military nurses stop by in here. Wish they would though. My advice is to stick with what you know. If that OR Nurse, then insist on that. As for life as an AF Nurse? I would imagine that it's pretty good conidering that this is the Air Force your talking about. The Air Force has the best of everything amongst all the services. Perhaps you could locate an AIr Force medical facility and talk to some of them? An Air Force Recruiter might be able to locate one to speak to? SEMPER FI The Gunny PROUD TO BE AN INFIDEL I prefer to think that the chip on my shoulder gives the monkey on my back something to play with. I have to exercise early in the morning before my brain figures out what I’m doing. “The Meek shall inherit the earth….after I’m through with it.” |
