There are plenty of jobs in the Navy that don't require being on a ship, for the most part. Or, there are plenty of Air Force type jobs, as the Navy has a lot of planes and helos. But, being on a ship isn't bad. I've visited many countries on a Navy ship.

I would say to look into it before you walk away from the idea or jump in. You may just find that you like a different branch of the military.

When my enlistment in the Army was coming to a close, I was looking at joining the AF to be a jet mechanic. I talked to a AF recruiter who basically told me that being prior Army, the only thing he could get me into was Para-rescue. I turned it down, since PR was too close to what I was doing in the Army. Well, a week later I got on the phone with a Navy recruiter and the rest is history. I ended up not being a jet mechanic, but I was doing what I wanted to do when I first joined the military and that was to fly. The Navy is a great group of guys and gals. I had a great time and I miss it, might be going back in after I graduate next year.

Well, anyone who scores high they try to get to do nuke. From what I have heard, nuke school is very hard. Alot of math, physics and chemistry. If you want to be in law enforcement, then Master at Arms or ?Gunners Mate? is the job you want in the Navy.

I believe I've heard about reenlistment bonuses for Navy nuke people above $50,000, because civilian jobs for Navy nuke people are $60,000+ annually.

If you are a nuke PE with significant experence you will probably be making 6 figures and 50K is not worth leaving a nice house, family and a wal mart to sleep in a rack with a bunch of guys in a sub or carrier.

Im just trying to be real, I dont like to sugar coat things or minimize things. Maybe if the military made an effort to increase the quality of life they wouldent have the problems they do. leaving a family for 18 months is unacceptble or being out to sea for 6 months to a year. The air force has the best track record and there is no reason the rest of the branches cant meet that standard. My hat is off to the army though for there restructing of basic, baby steps. We would not have to strain the family unit which is the core of our nation if we did not take the role of world dominators. We always try to make other nations problems our problems by expending massive time and energy into getting mixed up into there affairs instead of just dishing out consequences for attacks on our nation. Afganahstan could have been an in and out deal but we started meadling into their internal affair instead of just wiping them out and we are still there shooting people with M-16 instead of carpet bombing. We developed the MOAB for iraq and afganahstan and it has never been used. The reality is we cant keep this up much longer as a nation and if by some miricle we do until bush and the rest of the republican ran congress are out of office we will have a steep price tag for the aftermath. And if Korea ever decided to do anything we would not be able to respond. National gaurd units are tapped out because they are overseas where they are not suppost to be instead of being on the ready to defend the homefront. Oh well, maybe we will be blessed enough for all of this to just wash over. Oh but im a crazy maniac, just wait until it all comes tumbling down, I likely wont feel it but alot of you might.

Talk about combining several military and political messages into one off-subject rant my hijacker. Your single run-on paragraph is a testament to the poor education you must have received. What any of what you said had to do with getting back in the military because of drug use in beyond knowing.

You must realize that as none of us in here will be taking part in your introduction into the military (aka bootcamp) anything we say will be entirely subjective at best. Look at it like this, you are physically fit and passed the medical exam, right? then there's no reason you shouldn't be able to perform any of the physical tasks that will be demanded of you to complete your basic training baring an injury.
I would offer this one bit of advice, if you display any unwilliness to perform a certain type of physical task or exercise, guess what the drill instructors are gonna have you doing all the time when they make that connection about you? This is why I answered you in the manner I did. The instructor tells you to perform the duck walk, he may even tell you to waddle around like a duck and so on.....
