ok, so i am going to enlist in the air force. my ultimate goal is to become a pilot. i have one year of college under my belt and i have no intention on continuing school further (until after i enlist of course, so i can be an officer) due to financial reasons.
so what job would be a good one for me as an enlistee wanting to be a pilot. are there certain enlisted jobs for me that can potentially give me some useful experience that would translate into a higher chance of getting a pilot slot later? and are there certain majors that would also translate into a higher chance? i know technical majors like engineering look good on your resume, but is there a certain one that will benefit me most? |

deganajo, please know that ALL pilots in the USAF are commissioned Officers as well. That means at least 4 year degree, complete ROTC, or AFAcad. or OCS, US citizen, passing flight physical etc. Can you handle all that? There is no enlisted job in the USAF that substantially increases your chances to become a pilot. Enlisted Aircraft specific technical jobs (such as Jet Engine-ejection seat mechanic etc.) help you understand your job as pilot better (should you become one).

If you want to enlist and continue your schooling through the military the one job that would help you understand a pilots job would be air traffic control. Im not trying to hype on my own job but as ATC we control every apsect of flight for an aircraft. ATC wouldnt help you understand the equipment but it would help you see how the skys work. But like tanker said, its no small task to commision as a pilot.
