Even if you go guard/reserves you are still subject to deployment. Just get your BS and pilots licence and negotiate for a pilot slot when you get out. One route I never took which might be the best one is to try to get a guard/reserves contract for flight school pending an opening, this will allow you to go to 3-4 month OTS get commissioned and sit around and wait to go to flight school when they have an avalible slot open in the mean time you can get a civilian job with your BS degree. Make sure that during the wait around time your not going to be mopping floors or something the military always has a way souring the milk if your not carefull.

Well since my gpa is just under 3.0, my recruiter advised me to go Navigator or Air Battle Manager to get selected, and apply for flight duty later. The captain that just did my interview was an Air Battler Manager and said I had a good package and shouldn't have any problem getting selected on a Nav/ABM basis. I'm joining to serve, not for the perks. I paid for school myself anyway and I'll graduate next May. Thanks for the advice.

I researched the whole navigator to pilot, and it rarely occures. If you go in as a navigator you will likely stay a navigator. Good luck in your endevors

BTW I was offered a nav slot and turned it down, it is up to you if you want to sign a 12 year contract for a secondary job choice.
