I was just discharged from the USMC for fraudulent enlistment. I was wondering if there was a way I could get into the AF as Security Forces. My entire record is clean with the exception of a few traffic violations(speeding tickets). My MOS in the USMC was Infantry 0311, and I was at T-32 before I was dropped. I was the platoon Guide so physically I am capable of the AF's physical requirements. I scored an ASVAB score of 98 at MEPs so all the requirements to joining should be fulfilled the only thing I am worried about is the Security clearance. If I'm not eligible, where would the AF place me? Does it look like I would be able to cleared? I'm not worried about deploying, but was wondering if I put Korea on the wishlist what were the chances I would deploy there? What is AF life like as a Officer, or basically AF life overall? Thanks in advance.

I may be wrong but I doubt you will get in any branch of the services with what you said you were dropped from the USMC for. Sorry

Well, the Captain who signed my discharge papers said I could come back anytime I want. I spoke with recruiters and they said it's fine as well, I just want to know if it would hinder me from getting a security clearance.

If so then I stand corrected, no harm no foul

KANG,
Do you have unpaid debts? What is your credit rating? You need to have and maintain good credit rating. Bankrupt?, Evictions? Felonies? They look into your past history, and dig up anything and everything. The key is your disclosure up front, before they do dig it up. 95% of failure to obtain security clearances are all due to things discovered that were not disclosed up front by the applicant. This really is a no-brainer...they are looking at your integrity. You either have it or your don't. thanks a lot Gunny. All should be A ok then for my security clearance. Anyways, hey Gunny it looks as if you transitioned from the USMC to the AF.. How was the AF different as opposed to the MC. I know there is a vast difference between the 2 but how what were the pros and cons of both branches? Thanks alot for the help everyone.

Actually it was the other way around, my dad was career Air Force, and then I joined the Corps. Before I joined the Marines, I had been across the Atlantic Ocean 19 times, and 5 times across the Pacific.
In answer to your question on the differences between the two branches...there's really no comparison as I have what some would label as an extremely biased viewpoint about the Marine Corps. The Air Force has the largest budget of all branches. Ergo, they spend heavily on the creature comforts for its members. All Air Force Bases are the best that money can buy. Join the Air Force and you'll work on the best our government can buy technology wise. As for the Marines? We take what we can get, and usually that ain't much and is generally the castoff from both the Navy and the Army. We are very good at relieving them of items they are dumb enough to leave unsecured for any length of time. The Marine Corps is a true brotherhood in ways that other branches of service have yet to comprehend. Marines are warriors that actively seek out and take the fight to our nations enemies. The Army will only do that when they feel they have a numerical advantage. Don't get me starting on Zoomies. Thanks Gunny. Either way, I will be thinking long and hard about joining either. I'm skeptical of joining the USMC for fear that my condition will come back due to heavy PT in harsh weather conditions. Thanks for the help again.
