I am interested in becoming a PJ but have been thus far unable to locate any data on age limits. Does anyone know if there are any or if the only requirement is the successful completion of the training?
I am not that old - but I won't be able to join until my mid-twenties. Also wondering if college graduate status affects your potential career path. Please excuse the newbie questions, any responses or points-in-the-right-direction greatly appreciated. |

I dont think PJ's have any other age restrictions other than what the Air Force currently has for enlisting.
College graduate status wont affect your career path if you dont want it to. |

Thanks for the quick response. That's obviously the answer I was hoping for.
The next logical question is, how would college graduate status affect the career path? And what happens if you don't make the cut? I am confident, but not stupid - I know there's a decent possibility of not making it, and I wonder where that leaves me in the AF. |

hmmm, tube out of school leaves you .......in the Air Force.
But in answer to your first question does college graduate effect career path? Heck yes it does! You'll have more options with a degree than without one! SEMPER FI The Gunny PROUD TO BE AN INFIDEL America is not at war. The Marines are at war, America is at the mall. |

Thanks for the info... I have seen the site and done all the research I can, I think it's time to speak to a recruiter. I prefer to have as much information as possible going into that meeting.
Assuming I enter with a college degree I assume I become an officer, and assuming I didn't make the cut to be a PJ, are my options limited in terms of where I go from there within the Air Force? Thanks again for the responses, very helpful... |

hmmm, let me pull out my crystal ball marked with an Air Force decal! reckon what I'm trying to say is who knows until it happens? Your options would be presented when and if that were to occur. You really don't want to go into any high performance team like that asking about what happens if I fail? Not a good idea.
Good luck! Let us know how everything pans out for you. SEMPER FI The Gunny PROUD TO BE AN INFIDEL America is not at war. The Marines are at war, America is at the mall. |

dang... did they lower the standard for pararescue latley? I would think that they would need to be higher considering the cirucumstances. That test dosent seem difficult at all. I hope they take the top 2 or 3 in the class cuz when I need para-rescuing I dont want the dumbass that got a 43 on his Vacational Battery test, that has 20/70 vision in one eye, and cant 6 pull ups in under a minute... I dont know about you guys.

Unless you go talk to an officer recruiter than you wont be joining as an officer. Also, your degree has to be of value to the Air Force. Have a look at the AF Academy website to see what they teach there to get an idea of what you will need. You can get a contract that states that after your initial training, either Officer Training School or Basic Training, you will given a training slot for PJ. If you fail out of PJ and are removed from the course than the Air Force can do with you what they wwant basically. In the ideal world, they would put you in a job that is good for them and you. In the real world, they give you a list of jobs to choose from, you choose your top 3 favorites and then you might get one of those. They call it a Dream Sheet for that reason, its where you put your dreams. Also, I have heard that you can have it written into your contract that if you fail out of PJ than you are out of the AF but dont quote me on that. You'll need to talk to a recruiter for more details. Although thegunny has a good point, dont go into Indoc thinking about failing. The one and only thing that should be on your mind is passing. Having said that, dont forget that Indoc is though and people who fail out usually wind up as cops or cooks. There is a guy on my base who did something stupid (Idont know what because he wouldnt elaborate but LOR was mentioned) after he graduated from Indoc, got his scuba and jump wings and ended up serving me eggs in the chow hall line. |

Dont kid yourself, the PJs that wear the Maroon Beret are top of the line guys in awesome shape and when the time comes for them to be needed they will get the job done and get it done well. |

it would be ridiculous to enlist after attaining a degree. research Combat Rescue Officer (CRO). you can find it on the PJ site somebody posted. and no they havent lowered any standards (are you serious??? youre talking about some of the best, dude...) any "requirements" lists you find online are fluff. just ask anyone whos been through the pipeline.

Taylor, a college degree, as great as it is to many people, does not qualify you to be a commissioned officer. There is more to it and it ain't easy! 1.The degree must be of some use and from a reputable college. 2. To get into the USAF (or any Mil. service) you must pass various physical and mental tests as you surly know. 3. You must graduate from WP, AFA, ROTC or OCS. 4. If you pass and make it in and fail what you wanted to do (like PJ), the mil. has you and then their needs come first, as commie described so vividly above. Remember, it is a contract and if you fail it isn't the Army's fault. 5. In that case you may end up doing something else that you don't like. That's tough! All you can hope for then is a compassionate board that releases you early.
